**Philanthropic Stars to Be Honoured at Los Angeles Social Impact Summit**

The third annual Social Impact Summit is set to take place on 22 July in Los Angeles, with notable figures from the entertainment and sports world being recognised for their significant philanthropic contributions. Among this year’s honourees are musician John Mayer and NBA stars Stephen and Ayesha Curry, alongside actor Michael J. Fox, each celebrated for their commitment to social causes.
John Mayer, renowned for hits like “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room,” has been named Philanthropist of the Year for his work with the Heart and Armor Foundation for Veterans Health. Established by Mayer, the foundation aims to provide support for veterans, focusing on mental health and community integration. The organisation has raised over £5 million to fund vital research, which Mayer says is crucial in honouring the contributions of veterans.
Expressing his gratitude, Mayer stated, “I am incredibly grateful to The Hollywood Reporter and the Social Impact Fund for honouring me with this award and recognising the Heart and Armor Foundation for Veterans Health.” He further underscored the importance of supporting veterans during the 250th anniversary of the United States. “I am proud of the work we have accomplished and look forward to reaching many goals we have yet to achieve,” he added.
The Curry couple, Stephen and Ayesha, will share the spotlight as Philanthropists of the Year for their nonprofit initiative, Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. Launched in 2019, this programme is dedicated to improving access to food, literacy, and youth sports in Oakland, California. Their efforts have made a remarkable impact, providing over 25 million meals and investing £20 million to address literacy gaps through tutoring resources.
Describing their mission, the couple stated, “We launched Eat. Learn. Play. with the simple belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. Through access to nutritious food, high-quality literacy resources and safe places to play and be active, we’re working to help Oakland’s kids realise their full potential and experience the joy of a happy, healthy childhood.” They expressed their gratitude for the recognition, reinforcing their commitment to the children and families they serve.
In addition to individual accolades, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research will receive the Philanthropic Organisation of the Year award. Founded in 2000, the organisation is dedicated to advancing research efforts to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease, a condition with which Fox has lived since his diagnosis in 1991. His co-founder, Deborah Brooks, will also accept the honour on behalf of the foundation.
Fox remarked on the significance of the recognition, stating, “It’s amazing to see the foundation’s work acknowledged, but this honour belongs to the entire community that makes our progress possible.” He expressed a collaborative spirit, indicating that the foundation’s work relies heavily on the contributions of scientists, donors, and advocates committed to the cause. He emphasized, “Together, we’re sprinting to deliver on our promise to end Parkinson’s for good.”
