In a troubling incident in Camden, Arkansas, authorities have apprehended a 28-year-old man, Tyrice Fletcher, following a high-speed police chase during which his four children, all aged under six, were passengers in the vehicle. The Arkansas State Police reported that Fletcher was pursued by officers for allegedly exceeding speeds of 100 mph in what was characterised as a dangerous attempt to evade law enforcement on May 24.

According to the State Police, the pursuit commenced when an officer attempted to pull Fletcher over for a traffic violation, unaware that he had young children in the car. The pursuit, described as “lengthy,” took a perilous turn when Fletcher reportedly lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road, ploughed through a yard, and ultimately crashed into a light pole, flipping over and landing alarmingly close to live electrical wires.
Dashcam footage released by the authorities showed parts of the frantic chase, including multiple road crossings, although the dramatic moment of the crash itself was not featured. Following the accident, another officer on the scene was seen cautiously approaching the overturned car, weapon drawn for safety.

In the aftermath of the collision, a trooper was captured on film lifting a four-month-old infant, allegedly ejected from the vehicle during the crash. As officers checked the wellbeing of the occupants, one child inside the car credibly expressed concern, asking if her sibling was “alright.” An officer reassured her that everyone was being attended to.

The footage continued to document the chaos, showing a toddler being cared for by an officer, who tended to the child while completing necessary paperwork. Meanwhile, two other young children were seen inside the wrecked vehicle, prompting further inquiries from law enforcement.
Colonel Mike Hagar of the Arkansas State Police expressed his dismay, emphasising the irresponsibility of Fletcher’s actions. “As a father, I cannot fathom a parent making the decision to drive recklessly, much less flee from law enforcement, with their children in the vehicle,” he said.
Fletcher was charged with a multitude of offences including felony fleeing, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a firearm by disqualified individuals, and four counts of child endangerment. Additionally, he faces charges for criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and several driving infractions, including insufficient child passenger restraints and reckless driving.
In footage recorded after his arrest, Fletcher was observed lying across the seats of the police vehicle and appeared unable to provide the name of the infant when asked. At this point, it remains unclear whether he has denied the charges or secured legal representation.
This incident raises serious concerns about child safety and the responsibilities of parents. With Fletcher now facing numerous serious charges, the case highlights the potential risks posed by reckless behaviour, especially when children are involved.
As the local community reflects on this alarming event, discussions surrounding responsible parenting and the protection of children become more prevalent, underlining the critical necessity for vigilance on the roads. Authorities continue to urge the public to prioritise safety and the welfare of minors in all situations.
