Tracie Long, the grandmother of the deceased boy, identified as Jordan Dashwood, recounted the harrowing moments leading up to the tragedy. “They tried to get the baby, but they couldn’t get to him,” she revealed in an interview with local media, referring to the efforts made by firefighters to rescue her grandson.

Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed that emergency responders arrived at the Newbury Street property shortly after midnight to find the single-storey brick home fully engulfed in flames. Despite their rapid response and efforts to extinguish the fire, it was not until approximately 1:13 a.m. that the inferno was brought under control. Tragically, one child was found deceased in the house, with officials later confirming Jordan as the victim.
Jordan’s father, Jeremy Dashwood, suffered serious injuries while attempting to save his son. It has been reported that during the chaos, Jordan’s older brother managed to escape by jumping out of a window, while Jeremy fought bravely to reach Jordan but ultimately could not. He is now in a medically induced coma, recovering from his injuries.
Authorities have stated that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. While they are exploring the circumstances surrounding the incident, a spokesperson for the Victoria Police indicated that, at this stage, the fire is not being treated as suspicious. Fire Rescue Victoria has yet to provide further details regarding the investigation.
The loss of young Jordan has left his family and community in mourning. “I just miss that little man already. He’s so precious. He was so delightful,” Tracie Long expressed, reflecting on the boy’s vibrant personality. She described Jordan as a “bubble of energy” and an integral part of their family life.
In response to the tragedy, friends and family have come together to support the Dashwood family through a verified GoFundMe campaign, aimed at covering funeral costs and providing temporary accommodation. Sarina Mundy, a family organiser of the campaign, wrote, “Our hearts are shattered as we mourn the tragic loss of our precious Jordan.” She highlighted the joy and love that Jordan brought into their lives during his brief time on earth.
As donations pour in, Mundy expressed her gratitude towards those who have extended their support in this painful time, stating, “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with this family in their darkest hour.”
As investigations into the fire proceed, the depth of this heart-wrenching loss is felt not just by the family, but also by the wider community, reminding everyone of the fragility of life and the importance of community support in times of tragedy.
