Heather McComb, the former wife of actor James Van Der Beek, has recently tied the knot with fellow actor Scott Michael Campbell in an outdoor ceremony held in Missoula, Montana. The wedding took place on May 30 and comes just three months after the death of her first husband, Van Der Beek, who lost his battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer on February 11 at the age of 48.

The joyous occasion was marked by a sizeable bridal party and heartfelt tributes shared on social media platforms. McComb, aged 49, took to Instagram to announce her marriage, expressing gratitude for the love that surrounded them during the ceremony. “Yesterday @scottmichaelcampbell and I under the covenant of God got officially married by my beautiful sister @essence_says surrounded by the people we love most in the world in our most favourite city Missoula Montana,” she shared with her followers. Her post reflected the couple’s happiness, stating, “Our hearts are full and humbled by all of the love that we were surrounded by.”

McComb, who was previously married to Van Der Beek from 2003 until their split in 2010, described the day as “special” and acknowledged the contributions of their closest friends and family in making the event memorable. The couple’s wedding photos, captured by Dennis Webber Photography, showcased McComb in a stunning lace-embellished gown paired with a cross necklace, whilst Campbell donned a classic white tuxedo jacket accented with black trousers and a matching tie.
The wedding was attended by a large group, featuring 13 bridesmaids for McComb and 12 groomsmen accompanying Campbell. Reflecting on the occasion, McComb wrote, “We are sitting here counting our many blessings. Thank you to everyone who made this so special for us!”
Scott Michael Campbell also shared his feelings about the celebration, posting on his own social media account, “BEYOND BLESSED for the most AMAZING week getting married to the BEAUTIFUL soul who is @heathermccomb ❤️❤️ THANK YOU to ALL of our friends and family and all our newfound Friends and family!”
The timing of the wedding has brought various emotions to the forefront, particularly for McComb, as it closely follows the passing of her former husband Van Der Beek. Upon his death, she expressed sorrow on social media, reflecting on their journey together. “I am heartbroken over the loss of beloved James. I am especially heartbroken for his incredible wife Kimberly, his beautiful children, and his amazing family,” McComb wrote at the time, sharing her sympathy for those affected by his passing.
In her tribute, McComb praised Van Der Beek, recalling their enduring friendship as well as the admiration she held for him. “What a journey we shared over the years… I will treasure the last loving words we exchanged. James was a beautiful soul filled with so much light, love, talent, humour, depth, sensitivity, knowledge and a deep love of God that shined through him,” she expressed, highlighting his humility and the impact he made on those around him.
Van Der Beek remarried Kimberly in 2010, and together they raised six children – Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah. His new wife has also been vocal about her grief since his recent passing. In mid-May, she posted a heartfelt message reflecting on her loss, stating, “To say I’m heartbroken is a severe understatement… The reality is settling in… and I miss him. We all miss him.”
As McComb and Campbell embark on their new life together, their wedding stands as a poignant reminder of love in its many forms and the intertwining paths of their lives. With the backdrop of Missoula providing a beautiful setting, the couple hopes to build a future filled with joy and cherished memories, even as the shadow of loss lingers from McComb’s past.
Their story, marked by love, loss, and new beginnings, serves to remind us of the complex emotions associated with moving on while honouring those we have loved and lost. As McComb and Campbell celebrate their commitment to each other, the support of family and friends remains a vital part of their journey forward.
