Sia’s employment at the theme park, which is a part of the larger Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), came to an abrupt end during a rehearsal for the show. According to a spokesperson from RWS, the emergency was noticed by fellow performers who immediately rendered assistance. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Sia was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
In an official statement, the RWS representative noted, “Safety is our priority. Training is conducted with safety protocols in place, and we are reviewing the circumstances of the incident together with the performer’s employer.” Following this, Lena Lee, the Vice-President of Attractions and Destination Experience at RWS, confirmed Sia’s death in a subsequent statement, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

“ We are deeply saddened by the passing of a WaterWorld performer and send our condolences to the family, our show vendor, and his fellow performers during this very difficult time,” Lee stated. Authorities have indicated that foul play is not suspected in the case, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the details surrounding the incident.
On social media, tributes poured in for Sia from friends and colleagues, remembering him lovingly as a “gentle giant.” One friend took to Facebook to share fond memories, saying, “I will always remember you as a gentle and humble soul — someone who was always ready with a greeting, a joke, laughter, and companionship whenever we gathered together.” The sense of loss was palpable as many within the community expressed gratitude for having known him.
Sia was well known not only for his role at WaterWorld but also for his participation in the cosplay community, where he frequently donned the character of Darth Vader at fan events. His multifaceted contributions to the entertainment and cosplay spheres significantly impacted those around him, leading to an outpouring of affection online. “You will forever be missed, Willis Sia. I am thankful we met each other in this life. Please stay safe in heaven. Until we meet again, may the force be with you, Sia,” another tribute read.
The WaterWorld attraction, which showcases thrilling stunts and pyrotechnics, is based on the 1995 movie of the same name. This show is a part of multiple Universal Studios locations worldwide and is renowned for its spectacular displays of stunt work, including fire and water elements that captivate audiences.
The tragic loss of Willis Sia has sent shockwaves through his community, drawing attention to the risks performers face during rehearsals and live shows. As investigations continue, many are left mourning the untimely passing of a beloved figure known for his larger-than-life presence and kind-hearted nature.
In a time where safety concerns in entertainment venues are increasingly scrutinised, this incident underscores the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols to ensure the wellbeing of performers. Sia’s legacy will undoubtedly endure, as those who knew him remember not just his talent, but the warmth and kindness he brought into their lives.
