Silvia Moreno-Garcia, the acclaimed author behind the 2020 horror sensation *Mexican Gothic*, is set to bring her compelling narrative to a new medium. A graphic novel adaptation of her bestseller is scheduled for release in autumn 2027, published by BOOM!, the comic book imprint of Del Rey Books.

*Mexican Gothic* centres around the character Noemí Taboada, a young woman who travels to a remote estate in the Mexican countryside to rescue her cousin from a troubling situation following her swift marriage. Upon her arrival at the foreboding High Place, Noemí uncovers dark family secrets tied to her cousin’s new husband.
This new graphic novel is a collaboration between Moreno-Garcia and artist Steph C. Solis. Solis is also known for her upcoming project *The Body Was Never Found*, promising a fresh perspective on the celebrated story while retaining its eerie essence.
Discussing the adaptation process, Moreno-Garcia expressed her enthusiasm for reimagining the narrative visually. In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, she noted the creative dialogue she has had with Solis about effectively translating the novel’s themes into the vibrant art characteristic of the graphic novel format. “When many people think Gothic, they think gloomy and grey, but I asked Steph to consider the bold use of colour in Hammer films from the 1950s and classic giallos like *Suspiria*,” she explained. The author is confident that their collaboration will yield a product that is “lush, vibrant, and dramatic.”
Moreno-Garcia, in her continued exploration of the horror genre, has faced assumptions from others about her work. In a 2025 interview, she remarked on the stigma surrounding horror fiction, stating that it often leads people to question her mental state or to perceive it as a lesser form of literature. “There is an association of it being slummy, like the kind of thing that you don’t want to be associated with… I take horror and I take literature a lot more seriously than I did when I was a kid,” she stated.
In addition to the graphic novel, Moreno-Garcia is set to release a new noir novel titled *The Intrigue* on 14 July 2027. This latest work, set in 1940s Mexico, focuses on a con artist who becomes intricately involved in the machinations of a boarding house owner and her niece, promising to enthral readers with its mix of deception and intrigue.
This upcoming publication of *Mexican Gothic* as a graphic novel aligns with the recent trend of adapting popular novels into graphic form, allowing fans both new and old to experience the terrifying allure of the story through an artistic lens. The original *Mexican Gothic* remains available for purchase, inviting further exploration into the haunting narrative that captured the imagination of so many upon its release.
As anticipation builds for the graphic novel, fans can stay informed about future releases by subscribing to PEOPLE’s newsletter, ensuring they will not miss a story from this remarkable author. With Moreno-Garcia’s adept storytelling coupled with Solis’s artistic vision, the *Mexican Gothic* graphic novel is poised to be a noteworthy addition to the genre, blending elements of horror and graphic artistry in a captivating new format.
