Universal Orlando Resort has announced significant changes to one of its flagship attractions, the Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Starting from July 1, 2026, access to the ride via the Universal Express programme will be discontinued. This decision has sparked a variety of reactions among fans and guests of the beloved Harry Potter-themed attraction located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter section of Islands of Adventure.

In an official message shared on social media, Universal Orlando explained that this operational adjustment aims to enhance guest experience by improving the flow of visitors at the attraction. The park noted that by removing Express access for this ride, it hopes to better manage the wait times for everyone. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, which first opened in 2019, invites riders to embark on an enchanting journey through the Forbidden Forest on a motorbike, allowing them to experience exciting twists and turns unique to the Wizarding World.

Universal Express passes are a popular option for parkgoers, allowing them to bypass long standby lines. There are different variants of the pass, including the standard Express, which grants access to each participating attraction once a day, and the Unlimited version, which allows unlimited access. There is also a pay-per-ride Express Now pass available through the official park app for guests looking for faster access to specific rides.
However, the recent announcement has led to mixed responses. Many fans expressed disappointment regarding the removal of the Express option for Hagrid’s ride, particularly those who had purchased the Unlimited Express pass with the intention of experiencing this particular attraction. One concerned guest took to social media, voicing frustration about the sudden change, while others questioned whether adjustments would be made to the pricing of the Express passes in light of the removal of what many consider the most popular ride in the park.
Conversely, some park visitors welcomed the news, arguing that this change could help reduce peak wait times at the attraction. One supporter remarked that the long queues are often exacerbated by the presence of Express pass users, and without this option, the overall waiting time could be significantly decreased.
In addition to the changes affecting Hagrid’s ride, Universal Orlando is also undergoing several renovations and updates across the park. Hogwarts Castle is currently shrouded in scaffolding and tarps, suggesting that essential refurbishment work is underway. The park has indicated that the renovations are expected to be completed later this year, much to the anticipation of visitors.
Further developments at the park include the closure of the Lost Continent area, which has recently begun to be demolished. The decision to shut down this section of Islands of Adventure was confirmed by a park spokesperson and will pave the way for a new themed area. Aerial footage released by local media showed excavators at work amidst piles of debris.
Looking ahead, Universal Orlando has plans to introduce several new attractions. The highly anticipated Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster, themed around the popular film franchise, is set to debut next year. Similarly, Universal Studios Hollywood will also be unveiling its own version of the ride later this year.
Additionally, the park has been expanding its horizons with the launch of Epic Universe, a brand-new theme park that opened in May 2025. This addition marked a significant milestone, being the first major theme park to open in the United States in over two decades, indicating Universal’s commitment to investing in new experiences for its guests.
As Universal Orlando continues to adapt its offerings, it remains clear that the park is focused on providing an enjoyable experience for all its visitors while navigating the complexities of crowd management and attraction popularity. The upcoming changes, whether welcomed or opposed, reflect the evolving landscape of theme park entertainment in the ever-competitive industry.
