A disturbing incident in St. Louis, Missouri, has led to multiple felony charges against a 19-year-old man following a road rage confrontation that escalated into gunfire and left a pregnant woman injured. The altercation occurred on May 17, when the family was driving home from a prenatal appointment with their two-year-old child.

According to a probable cause statement, the family was navigating near the intersection of Russell Boulevard and South Jefferson Avenue when they were abruptly cut off by two vehicles, described as a black Honda sedan and a Volkswagen sedan. The family’s male driver reportedly pursued the offending vehicles into a nearby QuikTrip parking lot to confront the drivers about their reckless behaviour. After the encounter, he returned to his car, believing the confrontation had ended.
However, the situation took a dangerous turn as the two suspect vehicles began to follow the family, allegedly driving into oncoming traffic to maintain proximity. In a desperate attempt to escape, the family attempted a U-turn, which led to the suspects retaliating with gunfire.

The pregnant victim, reported to be 11 weeks along, later recounted hearing multiple shots before experiencing significant pain in her back. Investigators confirmed that she sustained a gunshot wound to her upper left back while the male victim suffered shrapnel injuries to his shoulder and chin. Furthermore, their vehicle displayed substantial damage consistent with gunfire.
After the shooting, the pregnant woman promptly dialled 911, informing dispatchers that “two black vehicles occupied by white males just shot up her vehicle.” She expressed that she had been shot and that her partner might also be injured, all while confirming their young child was present in the vehicle during the violent occurrence. Emergency responders subsequently arrived and transported both adults to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Surveillance footage from the vicinity played a crucial role in the investigation, revealing the family’s vehicle being pursued by the two suspect cars. Additional video evidence allegedly depicted shots being fired from the driver’s seat of the Volkswagen as the victims’ vehicle moved ahead.
Investigators employed license plate reader technology, which indicated that the Volkswagen was registered to Anthony Lee-Armstrong, the individual now facing serious charges, including first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and property damage.
The pregnant woman later identified Lee-Armstrong as the driver responsible for firing the shots during a police lineup. Eyewitness accounts further corroborated his involvement, with one witness from the Honda involved in the incident confirming Lee-Armstrong as the shooter. There were also allegations that he made “racist statements” towards the family during the encounter.
Prosecutors allege that Lee-Armstrong knowingly discharged his firearm from the Volkswagen, leading to injuries for the individuals in the family vehicle. As investigations continue, the case has raised questions about road rage incidents and their escalating severity.
This incident highlights the potential dangers associated with aggressive driving behaviours that can lead to violent confrontations on the roads. The community has expressed concerns over road safety, particularly amid increasing reports of reckless driving in urban areas.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the family affected by this incident continues to recover from their traumatic experience. The charges against Lee-Armstrong represent a serious criminal response to a reckless act of aggression, as authorities aim to ensure accountability in cases involving gun violence.
