In a significant public health alert, several drink powders utilised by restaurants and cafés have been recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. This announcement, made by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has prompted immediate action from SKS Copack, the distributing company, following a finding from one of its key suppliers.

The contamination was discovered during routine testing by California Dairies, which supplies nonfat dry milk powder used in various beverage and dessert mixes. Following this, SKS Copack initiated a recall after being informed of the issue, affecting a specific batch of products that may pose health risks to consumers.
Among the affected products are several popular drink powders marketed under the Angel Specialty Products brand, which includes Matcha Green Tea and Caramel Latte. The recall additionally extends to products sold under the Royal Gold, Boba Time, FANALE, and DENDA brands. Other items include a variety of flavours such as horchata, taro, white chocolate, French vanilla cappuccino, and even smoothie bases and yogurt powders.
Although no illnesses have been reported thus far, the FDA has highlighted that Salmonella can lead to a range of health issues if ingested. Common symptoms include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, nausea, and fever, with more severe complications possible in vulnerable populations such as infants, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
The company has stopped the distribution of all contaminated products and is taking the necessary steps to quarantine any remaining inventory. This proactive approach comes as part of a cooperative effort with the FDA to thoroughly investigate the situation further.
Consumers concerned about the safety of their purchases are advised to check the lot codes on the packaging of the products. Any identified items can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund, reassuring buyers that they can ensure their health safety without financial loss.
For those needing additional information, SKS Copack has set up a helpline, operational from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. PST, ensuring that customers have access to answers regarding the recall.
This latest recall follows closely behind an investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) into a multi-state outbreak of drug-resistant Salmonella that sickened numerous individuals across the country. As organisations continue to monitor and respond to health threats like these, it underscores the importance of food safety measures and consumer vigilance.
As this story unfolds, it remains crucial for consumers to stay informed about product recalls and health alerts, ensuring they can make informed decisions regarding their food and beverage consumption. Public health entities along with food suppliers and manufacturers are working diligently to uphold safety standards, aiming to prevent incidents like these from occurring in the future.
