Authorities in Michigan are seeking the public’s help after the concerning disappearance of 55-year-old Jennifer McCormick, who has Down syndrome. Jennifer was last spotted at her family home in Alamo Township on the evening of May 13. According to reports from local news stations WoodTV and WWMT, she was last seen at approximately 5:30 PM when her brother, Michael McCormick, left for a brief errand.

While Michael was out for roughly an hour and a half, Jennifer appeared to have walked out of the house. Upon his return, he searched for his sister but was unable to locate her. After a thorough search of the property, which lasted about half an hour, he reported her missing to the authorities.

In an interview with WoodTV, Michael recalled his frantic search, stating, “I went into my room, turned on my computer, and after about half an hour, I went to the stairs and called out, ‘Are you all right?’ She didn’t answer.” After extensive searching, he added, “I searched upstairs, nothing. I came down and started looking outside around the house. After a half hour of searching, I called the police and said, ‘My little sister’s gone.’”

Jennifer McCormick is described as standing 4 feet 8 inches tall, weighing around 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Her family has expressed deep concern, particularly as she has not had any activity on her credit cards and has not reached out to anyone since her disappearance. Authorities believe she may not have taken cash or a mobile phone with her when she left.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller provided updates during a press conference held on May 22. He noted that Michael had been Jennifer’s primary caregiver following the passing of their mother in 2022. He indicated that investigators suspect a disruption in Jennifer’s normal routine may have contributed to her disappearance. “There’s been a routine that has caused her some sort of inability to cope with how things were going,” Fuller explained. He added that this disruption likely stemmed from changes in her care as Michael had taken over as the primary support for the past four years.
Despite her independence in some areas—Jennifer is considered “high functioning” and has completed her high school education—she remains reliant on her family for daily support and guidance. Her brother’s comments suggest that she is known to be left alone occasionally, but the circumstances surrounding her sudden disappearance remain puzzling for her family and the authorities.
The search efforts have been extensive, with canine units and a drone team being deployed to the area where Jennifer was last reported seen. Officers continue to encourage local residents to be vigilant and report any information that could assist in locating her. Sheriff Fuller mentioned that while there had been a few tips regarding Jennifer’s potential whereabouts, no additional leads had yet resulted in her finding.
In the wake of Jennifer’s disappearance, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office has made an appeal to the public. They urge anyone who may have seen her or has information that could aid the search to come forward. Potential witnesses can contact 911 or reach out to the Kalamazoo Consolidated Dispatch Authority at 269-488-8911.
The community response has been commendable, with many individuals rallying to support the McCormick family during this trying time. Authorities hope that by raising awareness and enlisting the help of the public, they can bring Jennifer home safely.
As the investigation continues, her family remains hopeful for her return. Support from the local community and media coverage will be crucial in the days ahead. The urgent need for information underlines the critical role that public involvement can play in resolving such distressing situations.
