Three teenagers from Florida have been recognised as heroes after their quick thinking led to a potentially life-saving intervention for a man experiencing a medical emergency. Logan Royer, Cody Magrone, and Brody Murray, all high school students, were at a McDonald’s in Cooper City when they noticed 65-year-old Diego Fernandez-Delgado struggling near his vehicle.

On April 19, Fernandez-Delgado had been driving along South Flamingo Road when he suffered a flat tyre. After his phone battery died, he decided to exit his car in an effort to change the tyre unaided. It was a particularly hot day, with temperatures reaching around 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit), and the teenagers quickly realised that Fernandez-Delgado’s condition was alarming.
As the three boys approached him, they observed that the elderly man appeared disoriented and unwell. Concerned for his safety, they initially suspected he might be suffering from a heat-related illness. Rather than leaving him to continue struggling alone, the teenagers made the prudent decision to contact emergency services.

At that moment, the man was unable to speak, feeling exceedingly weak while experiencing difficulty breathing and chest pains.

Body camera footage shows the boys standing by Fernandez-Delgado’s vehicle as they awaited the arrival of the police and paramedics. Upon reaching the hospital, medical personnel confirmed that the elderly driver had actually suffered a heart attack, necessitating immediate treatment.
The swift response and presence of mind demonstrated by Royer, Magrone, and Murray were remarked upon by first responders, who indicated that their efforts likely saved Fernandez-Delgado’s life.
