Katie Lee Biegel, the popular Food Network personality, has recently opened up about her experience following the cancellation of her long-running show, ‘The Kitchen’, which aired for an impressive 12 years before coming to an end in 2025. During a conversation at the Gotham Ball, an event that supported the Food Bank for New York City, Biegel expressed her fondness for the programme and detailed her sentiments regarding its conclusion.

Reflecting on her time with ‘The Kitchen’, Biegel highlighted the camaraderie and friendships she forged with her co-hosts, including culinary heavyweights like Sunny Anderson, Geoffrey Zakarian, and Jeff Mauro. “I miss my co-host,” she stated, recalling moments of laughter and connection that took place backstage. “We miss each other. We miss going in each other’s dressing rooms and hanging out and just kind of, you know, BSing with each other,” she added, emphasising the personal bonds that were formed over the years.

In addition to her reflections on the show, Biegel shared insights into her current life as a mother of five-year-old Iris Marion Biegel, whom she raises with her husband, Ryan Biegel. Juggling the demands of work and family can be challenging, but Biegel prioritises her daughter above all else. “I don’t know how much balance I have, but I make my priority my daughter and my family,” she remarked. “That’s always going to be number one for us.”

Biegel, embracing her identity as a homebody, finds joy in spending time with her daughter at home. This love for family life has also led her to intertwine her professional pursuits with her personal life. She recently joined forces with her husband to co-create a YouTube series titled ‘It’s Not Complicated.’ “He’s a producer, so he’s producing the show, he’s filming it and we’re having a great time,” she noted, highlighting the collaborative nature of the project.
The mother-of-one’s foray into the culinary vlogs has not been without its mishaps, as she recounted an unfortunate incident while filming where she accidentally injured her finger. “In all my years of cooking, I have never cut myself,” she admitted. During the incident, she sliced through her fingernail, leading to a humorous post on social media featuring a bandaged finger, accompanied by the caption, “One day, I’ll have a fingernail again….”
Biegel’s commitment to philanthropy is evident in her active support for the Food Bank for New York City. She has been affiliated with the organisation for over a decade, recognising the stark contrast between her profession, which often highlights an abundance of food, and the reality faced by many in New York who deal with food insecurity. During her speech at the Gotham Ball, she articulated her commitment to giving back, asserting, “My job is all about the excess of food, and there are so many people right here in our city who are food insecure, so I feel that I have a duty to give back.”
Adding a personal dimension to her charitable efforts, Biegel brought her daughter to participate in volunteer work at the Food Bank’s facility in the Bronx for the first time. “We did a day together packing boxes, and she had the best time,” she shared, encouraging parents to involve their children in community service from a young age. Biegel’s experiences underscore her belief in the importance of instilling values of kindness and generosity in the next generation.
As Biegel navigates her post-‘Kitchen’ world, she carries with her the lessons learned and relationships fostered over more than a decade on the show. While she mourns the loss of that chapter in her life, she embraces new opportunities and roles, all while striving to maintain a steady balance between her family, personal projects, and philanthropic efforts. The popular foodie remains committed to her roots, reminding us of the essence of community and the spirit of giving back in our ever-evolving lives.
