Recently, the singer revealed that they have a parent undergoing rehabilitation following a stroke, which has compounded their stress. In her post, Rimes, aged 43, explained how these family struggles have created heavy emotional weight for both herself and Cibrian, 52. Notably, both of them are only children, which adds extra responsibility to Cibrian in managing family matters. This situation has left Rimes feeling heartbroken as she watches her loved one bear a heavy load while she grapples with her own difficulties.

Describing her emotional state, Rimes stated, “Watching your loved ones hurt while you’re hurting yourself is just… a lot.” The helplessness and vulnerability she feels amplify the uncertainty that comes with such situations, making the turmoil even more challenging. Furthermore, this emotional pain comes at a time when Rimes has had to postpone a series of concerts due to significant health concerns.
Though she did not disclose the specific nature of her illness, the artist shared that she has been struggling with her voice and throat, expressing frustration at the need for extended recovery time. “I’m days away from needing to be performance-ready, but my throat still hurts,” Rimes wrote. For someone whose musical career hinges on her voice, the unpredictability of her recovery is understandably daunting.
Rimes admitted that the decision to cancel and reschedule performances has been one of the most difficult choices she has faced in her career. Historically, she has pushed through health concerns to meet the expectations of her fans, but she has come to realise that this approach may have hindered her healing. “For years, I’ve overridden my body and mind,” Rimes recounted, reflecting on the guilt that often accompanied such decisions.
In this moment of crisis, the singer is embracing a newfound clarity about taking care of her health. She remarked that it is vital to prioritise her wellbeing over the pressure to perform, stating, “My health has to come first.” This mindset shift is crucial for Rimes as she navigates through the dual challenges of familial distress and personal health.
Additionally, Rimes expressed her thoughts on the public scrutiny that often comes with celebrity status. She found it somewhat amusing that people on the internet discuss aspects of her life that they truly know nothing about, highlighting a disconnect between public perception and personal reality. “So right now, I’m taking it day by day, hour by hour sometimes, doing everything I possibly can to heal,” she affirmed.
Despite the physical discomfort and emotional challenges she is facing, Rimes reported that she feels relatively good overall and is managing her energy. She concluded her Substack post with a heartfelt apology to her fans for the cancellations. “Sometimes showing up doesn’t mean pushing harder,” she noted. Instead, she emphasised the importance of listening to one’s own body, even when it is difficult.
Rimes expressed pride in her journey towards prioritising self-care, likening her current state of mind to that of her younger self. She reflected on how the 13-year-old version of herself would be elated to see her 43-year-old self finally placing personal health as a priority. As she continues to heal both physically and emotionally, Rimes remains optimistic about her recovery and the path ahead.
