Influencer Tana Mongeau recently opened up about her relationship with boyfriend Makoa Da Silva in an episode of the popular podcast “Call Her Daddy.” The 27-year-old discussed how her time with Makoa has significantly altered her perceptions of love and relationships, paving the way for personal growth and healing.

During her conversation with podcast host Alex Cooper, Mongeau expressed that her previous romantic encounters had often been fraught with toxicity. She attributed much of this outlook to her childhood experiences, revealing how these had shaped her beliefs about love and attachment. Mongeau recalled how she had once viewed love as a tumultuous journey, saying, “My childhood made me believe that love was something you had to earn and that love was a roller coaster.”
Exploring these themes further, Mongeau described her struggles with unhealthy relationship patterns, noting that her past experiences often led her to feel as if she needed to “work” for love. “It fostered such toxic relationships and attachments,” she explained, adding that she frequently found herself in relationships where her partners did not reciprocate her feelings, merely content with the attention she received.
Change, however, began when she met Makoa. Mongeau explained that their first year together was a period of significant unlearning for her. “The first year of our relationship was him patiently sitting beside me while I unlearned a lot of things,” she said. This process not only required her to reflect on her former beliefs but also necessitated her transformation into a different kind of partner.
Their relationship, now dating for over two years, has proven to be a stabilising force in Mongeau’s life. In a conversation with PEOPLE, she remarked on how grateful she is to have found Makoa, highlighting his loyalty and respect. “He’s truly the yin to my yang,” she said, noting the contrasting dynamics of their personalities. While she often identifies as spontaneous and energetic, she described Makoa as calm and thoughtful.
As Mongeau steps into a new phase of her life, including launching her podcast “Brand Safe,” she has begun to share insights based on her experiences, particularly regarding dating. She has stressed the importance of recognising when a relationship is no longer serving one’s well-being. “It’s okay to end it,” she stated, emphasising that love should not be a constant struggle filled with chaos and emotional roller coasters.
Reflecting on her journey, Mongeau asserted that love ought to be tranquil and secure, rather than fraught with tension or uncertainty. “Over time, I learned that love is something that you’re supposed to feel peaceful in,” she explained, urging young people, especially girls, to acknowledge their self-worth. “You are so worth it,” she declared, encouraging them to extend grace to themselves.
Throughout her public life, Mongeau has navigated her fair share of relationships, becoming well-known for her previous partnerships with figures such as Bella Thorne and Jake Paul. However, her emphasis now lies firmly on the lessons learned from her past and how they have equipped her to engage in healthier relationships moving forward.
As she continues to share her story, Mongeau highlights the impact of personal growth on love, both in her life and for those who may relate to her experiences. Her openness provides a new perspective on relationships, one that favours understanding and nurturing over chaos and struggle.
