The National Park Service confirmed the grim news on Tuesday, May 12. Krishna, reported missing in late April, had been endeared by many for his adventurous spirit. However, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear. An ongoing investigation is examining the details leading up to his untimely death.

Krishna was reportedly last seen along the Rim Trail, situated between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point, between 4 p.m. on April 27 and midnight on April 28. Park officials indicated that the last known location of Krishna was along this scenic route, known for its breathtaking views. His family was hopeful for a different outcome, with Krishna’s brother, Adarsh Krishna, expressing deep concern for his brother’s well-being.
Early on April 28, a backpack identified as Krishna’s was handed in to hotel staff at Bright Angel Lodge. However, there was no information linking him to a vehicle, prompting officials to believe that he may have utilised a rideshare or taxi service to reach the park. This has added to the uncertainty surrounding his case.
Adarsh Krishna shared his thoughts in an interview, stating, “We don’t want to believe he’s hurt. We need a proper closure. We don’t know what exactly happened to him.” He further highlighted Krishna’s character, saying, “He’s not the kind of kid who would hurt himself.” His family had been anxiously awaiting news, having been informed of his trip and his intention to return on April 28.
The Grand Canyon, renowned for its stunning beauty, stretches over 270 miles along the Colorado River. It is a remarkable example of natural erosion and is also historically significant as it sits on the ancestral homelands of 11 contemporary Tribal Communities. With its awe-inspiring views and rugged landscape, the Grand Canyon attracts millions of visitors each year.
However, despite its beauty, the park is also known for its challenging terrain, which has contributed to numerous reports of individuals going missing. The rugged environment, which can be both captivating and dangerous, has led to the Grand Canyon being noted as one of the U.S. national parks with the highest number of disappearances.
As the investigation progresses, many are left to reflect on the risks associated with outdoor activities in such environments and the importance of safety measures while exploring nature. The park’s vastness, coupled with its harsher weather conditions, can present unforeseen dangers even to the most seasoned hikers.
As closure for Sandarsh Krishna’s family remains elusive, the park community and visitors alike are reminded of the fragility of life and the necessity for caution in the great outdoors. The focus remains on discovering the truth behind this tragic event and supporting the Krishna family during this difficult time.
