In a recent conversation with PEOPLE, the 27-year-old Mongeau discussed her transformative journey towards sobriety, which began as a decision to prioritise her well-being and future. “I think it was the greatest milestone of my life, truly. For a long time, I was living without care and thinking about the future,” she reflected. She explained that her lifestyle had been reckless, and opting for sobriety was the moment she decided to invest in herself.
Mongeau has long been known for her party girl image, a persona she had convinced herself was necessary for her career success. However, her newfound sobriety has led her to realise that she can still be entertaining and engaging without relying on substances. “I didn’t need a party girl image to have a successful career,” she stated, illustrating her personal growth.

Encouraging others to embrace sobriety, Mongeau aims to serve as a role model for individuals who may feel trapped in a lifestyle that isn’t aligned with their true selves. “If I can get sober, they can too,” she affirmed. Recognising that the journey to sobriety can be challenging, she emphasised the importance of resilience: “No matter how many times you try or fall down, you have to keep standing up.”
Reflecting on her past struggles, Mongeau has turned to journaling and therapy to seek guidance and support. She expressed a sense of gratitude for her life experiences, stating, “I’m happy that everything happened to me. I don’t have any regrets.” Believing firmly in the butterfly effect, she maintains that her past has shaped her into who she is today, embracing even her worst moments.

While having shared personal ups and downs on the internet for nearly a decade, Mongeau remains grateful for her journey. “I think that I did a decent job with the cards that I was dealt,” she commented, expressing her desire to be a beacon for others who may feel defined by their past. Mongeau asserts that it is never too late to reinvent oneself. “It’s never too late to wake up and say, ‘I want to be perceived differently’,” she stated, encouraging individuals to reflect on their own transformations.
In her pursuit of self-discovery, Mongeau is excited to share her story through her new podcast, Brand Safe, which is set to launch on May 9. She hopes to present the “rawest, realist version” of herself, a stark contrast to earlier phases of her life when her motivations may not have been as genuine. “I’ve truly found myself, and I know exactly who I am,” she said, indicating a newfound clarity and confidence.
Brand Safe encapsulates her commitment to authenticity. “I’m just talking my truth and reflecting on all of these years in Hollywood while still giggling,” she added, showcasing her lighthearted approach to serious subjects. Mongeau believes that her platform is an opportunity to convey that there is a deeper purpose behind all experiences, both positive and negative.
For those struggling with substance abuse, Mongeau’s story offers a glimmer of hope. She highlights the resilience required to overcome obstacles, advocating that no one should be defined by their mistakes. As she embarks on this new chapter, Tana Mongeau’s journey serves as an inspiring testament to the power of personal growth and the possibility of reinvention.
