On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the streets of London came alive with the energy of young participants in the TCS Mini London Marathon, an event designed for children from kindergarten through to 12th grade. The marathon, which serves as a precursor to the renowned TCS London Marathon, offered a unique opportunity for youngsters to engage in physical activity while enjoying the spirit of competition.

The TCS Mini London Marathon featured two distinct routes: a one-mile course for children in kindergarten to seventh grade, and a slightly longer 2.6-kilometre option for those between fourth and twelfth grade. This range of distances allowed children to participate according to their comfort level, with older students able to challenge themselves further.
Participation in this event was managed through a ballot system, where schools could register up to forty students each. However, due to safety regulations, it was required that younger children, specifically those in kindergarten through second grade, had an adult accompanying them throughout the run. This ensured that all participants had the support they needed while navigating the course.
The atmosphere at the event was filled with excitement as approximately 20,000 young runners made their way from Horse Guards Parade to The Mall. Not only could they run, jog, or walk, but many also opted to wheel their way along the path, making the event inclusive for children with different mobility needs.
Each child who crossed the finish line received a medal to commemorate their achievement. In addition, the race’s title sponsor, TCS, offered a monetary reward of £10 to every participant who completed the event, further incentivising young runners to give their best effort.
The day of the TCS Mini London Marathon proved to be highly engaging for the participants, as well as spectators. Many of the young athletes shared their experiences with the media after completing the race. For instance, one young runner expressed how tiring the experience was, while another recounted a light-hearted moment with their parent.
Fitness coach Joe Wicks, who has long been an advocate for promoting physical activity among youth, lauded the importance of such events. He emphasised how vital it is for children to stay active during their formative years, stating that moving around instills a sense of positivity and happiness that can extend into adulthood. Wicks noted the infectious energy exhibited by the children, highlighting how events like the Mini Marathon can foster a lifelong commitment to fitness.
The TCS Mini London Marathon not only celebrates physical activity but also brings communities together. With schools participating en masse, it creates a sense of camaraderie and support among children, parents, and educators alike. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of encouraging health and fitness from a young age, establishing a foundation for a healthier future generation.
As the excitement of the TCS Mini London Marathon draws to a close, anticipation now builds for the upcoming TCS London Marathon, which will see a multitude of both amateur and professional runners tackling the iconic 26.2-mile course the following day. The success of the Mini marathon stands as a testament to the enthusiasm for running and fitness among the youth of London, and it is hoped that this enthusiasm continues not just on the streets of the capital, but across the country.
