A serious head-on collision near Lake Pleasant, Arizona, on Sunday, May 3, has left nine individuals injured, with four people suffering critical injuries. The incident involved a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) and a pickup truck, as reported by local media outlets including AZ Family, Fox 10 Phoenix, and AZ Central.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash around 1:45 p.m. local time, sending officers from the Peoria Police Department (PPD) and firefighters to the scene near French Creek Road. Upon arrival, responders discovered that a UTV and a pickup truck had collided after travelling in opposite directions. According to the Peoria Fire-Medical Department, prevailing dust and reduced visibility may have played a role in the alarming incident.
The vehicles’ occupants, ranging from 16 to 48 years of age, included two adults in the pickup truck and seven individuals in the UTV, which was reportedly being operated by a teenager. Eyewitness accounts have indicated that improper seating arrangements in the UTV may have exacerbated the situation; claims have surfaced suggesting that at least one passenger was seated on another’s lap and not secured with a seatbelt.
Four individuals from the UTV were in critical condition following the collision. Three of them were airlifted to hospitals for urgent medical treatment, while a fourth individual was taken by ground ambulance. Additionally, three passengers sustained minor injuries and were also transported to medical facilities for evaluation.
The PPD is conducting an investigation into the accident, with a focus on the circumstances surrounding the vehicles’ collision.
