NESC Motocross, the organisation affiliated with the track, expressed their sorrow in a social media post on April 30, confirming Mechachonis’s untimely death and reflecting on his achievements. “Sadly we have to report that NESC rider, Alex Mechachonis, passed away after crashing at a practice track earlier this week,” they wrote. “Alex had been racing since 2022 and loved it very much. He had great success racing including three championships in the 2025 NESC Spring series.”

The announcement highlighted the affection garnered by Mechachonis within the motocross community, stating, “Alex would have turned 18 this year; he leaves behind a loving family and many friends in the moto community.” The NESC board and local tracks extended their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the young rider, underscoring the profound impact of his loss.
MX Twenty-Three also expressed their grief through social media, remarking, “There are no words to describe the heartbreak and sadness we all feel here at MX23!” They emphasised the tight-knit nature of the motocross family, indicating that losses such as Alex’s resonate deeply. “God speed Alex, rip it up there in heaven,” was their poignant tribute.
Brookfield Police Chief Michael Blanchard confirmed Mechachonis’s death, although the Brookfield Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for further information. The Massachusetts Environmental Police conveyed their condolences while inviting the public to aid their investigation into the tragic event, which they described as a “fatal ATV accident.”
Eyewitness accounts from members of the motocross community indicated that Alex was wearing appropriate gear, including a helmet, at the time of the incident. Reports suggest that the track conditions were satisfactory, and no external factors contributed to the crash. “Just the fact that, unfortunately, having lost him, it’s a tragic thing, but knowing that he did leave us doing something that he positively loved and knowing that he did so under the safest of conditions,” expressed Rick Johnson, a fellow motocross enthusiast and friend.
In a heartfelt gesture of support for his family, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched, rapidly raising nearly $46,000 as of May 2. The fundraiser description praised Alex’s character, noting, “Alex brought energy, kindness, and dedication to everything he did, and his loss is deeply felt by everyone who knew him.”
Tragically, Alex’s death marks at least the third fatality at the MX Twenty-Three in recent years, with previous incidents recorded in 2016 and 2024, as reported by the Boston Herald. Following this latest misfortune, members of the motocross community are advocating for more stringent safety regulations at tracks across the state, hoping to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
As the investigation continues, the motocross community remains united in mourning Alex’s untimely passing, recalling a young man who deeply loved the sport and touched the lives of those around him.
