A 33-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a suspected plot aimed at attacking Princess Catharina-Amalia and Princess Alexia of the Netherlands. Authorities detained him after he was allegedly found with axes and a handwritten note featuring disturbing language. His court hearing is set for May 4.

According to court documents published by The Hague Public Prosecutor’s Office, the man was apprehended in early February while in possession of two axes. Notably, these axes were reportedly etched with the names “Alexia,” references to the Israeli intelligence agency “Mossad,” and the Nazi salute phrase “Sieg Heil.” This has raised considerable alarm among investigators, who suggest that such items indicate a direct threat to the royal family members.
The suspect has not been named publicly, but evidence collected during his arrest included a handwritten note with the words “Amalia,” “Alexia,” and “Bloodbath.” The contents of this note have intensified concerns regarding his intentions towards the two princesses, both of whom are members of the Dutch monarchy.

Princess Catharina-Amalia, 22, and Princess Alexia, 20, are the elder daughters of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. They also have a younger sister, Princess Ariane, who is 19. The royal family has faced heightened security concerns in the past, particularly regarding Princess Amalia, who has endured threats that have impacted her life significantly.
In 2022, Princess Amalia was compelled to vacate her student accommodation at the University of Amsterdam due to security issues. Her mother, Queen Máxima, highlighted the consequences of these threats, stating, “It has huge consequences for her life.” The concerns led to Princess Amalia relocating abroad in 2024, seeking a more secure environment in Madrid to continue her studies and experience a semblance of normalcy as a student.

Reflecting on her move to Spain, Princess Amalia expressed her gratitude for being able to find some degree of freedom that was not possible in the Netherlands. Speaking during King’s Day celebrations in April, she acknowledged the unusual circumstances that prompted her relocation but stressed her appreciation for those who enabled her to live without fear in her new surroundings.
As investigations continue, both The Hague Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Dutch Royal House have not commented further on the situation. The international community is closely observing the developments in this case involving the Dutch monarchy, especially given the implications for royal safety and security in an increasingly volatile world.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges and threats made against public figures, particularly those associated with royal families. The issue of safety for royal individuals remains a pressing concern, with authorities being ever vigilant in their protective measures.
As the situation evolves, many will be watching the upcoming court proceedings while also hoping for an expedited resolution that ensures the safety of the princesses and the royal household.
