“Casa de Tostitos was created to showcase the difference and the breadth of work that Tostitos can do,” Derry said during an exclusive interview. She explained her vision for the event, focusing on the brand’s versatility across various dining occasions, from game days to casual get-togethers. With her culinary expertise, she aimed to showcase a unique take on Tostitos that diverged from their customary uses.

The event highlighted Tostitos’ shift towards craft and quality, pivoting from a sole focus on chips to incorporating masa, the core ingredient of its products, as a significant component in culinary creations. This change aligns with Derry’s own background; hailing from Texas and Louisiana, she revealed that Tostitos were a staple in her family, often enjoyed with queso or as part of a hearty game-day spread.
Reflecting on her childhood memories, Derry recalled, “Everyone sort of grew up with Tostitos. Depending on where you’re from, it dictates how you use it. There’s nachos, there’s very nostalgic dishes that I remember.” However, she is eager to take Tostitos beyond these familiar pairings. “I want to do dishes that maybe aren’t as nostalgic… to show the breadth of what you can do and how different it can be,” she emphasised.
Derry’s work extends to her role on ‘MasterChef’, where she recently concluded Season 16, known as the Global Gauntlet season. This year’s theme celebrated family heritage and the diverse culinary traditions of contestants hailing from regions such as the Americas, Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. Derry mentioned her interest in the contestants’ connections to their dishes, commenting on the execution and the authentic representation of their cultural backgrounds.
“What was the intent with the dish? Did they execute it properly? Was I able to taste what they promised?” Derry queried, highlighting the complexities involved in assessing the contestants’ culinary creations. She expressed the importance of properly showcasing flavours and techniques that reflect each competitor’s unique heritage.
Throughout her multifaceted career, Derry remains committed to the idea of honouring one’s origins while striving for innovation. “We should always be evolving, not only as chefs and creators but in every aspect of what we do,” she stated, hinting at her continual pursuit of culinary growth and creativity.
As Tiffany Derry leads Tostitos into a new era, her passion for inclusive and inventive cuisine serves as a powerful testament to the ongoing evolution of food culture. With her help, Tostitos aims to inspire a fresh appreciation of its products and encourage consumers to explore new culinary horizons.
The event at Casa de Tostitos not only unveiled new offerings but also highlighted the brand’s commitment to culinary creativity. It stands as a reflection of Derry’s ethos: embracing change while celebrating her roots, paving the way for a broader understanding of food and its endless possibilities.
