Woman Reported Missing After She Failed to Call Mom on Mother’s Day. Her Body Was Found Nearly 7 Years Later in a Vacant Home

Authorities in Ohio have confirmed the identification of human remains discovered in Cleveland as belonging to Paige Coffey, a woman who had been missing since May 2019. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office announced on April 29 that the remains were positively identified as Coffey’s, following their recovery from a vacant residence on East 142nd Street on April 17.

The investigation into Coffey’s disappearance began after she was reported missing by her family on May 17, 2019. At the time, she was 27 years old and resided in Bratenahl, Ohio. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Coffey had last been seen on May 7, 2019, at a Home Depot in Cleveland, where she was accompanied by her boyfriend.

The circumstances surrounding her disappearance have raised significant concern, as Coffey had not made contact with her loved ones for several days prior to being reported missing. Her family had expressed grave concerns, noting that her lack of communication was uncharacteristic. Investigators appealed to the public in February 2020, urging anyone with information regarding Coffey’s whereabouts to come forward, believing that someone in the community held vital information.

Coffey’s family has communicated their devastation following the confirmation of her remains. The non-profit organisation Cleveland Missing shared the news on social media, expressing their sorrow and conveying that Coffey’s family had requested privacy during this difficult period. They described her as a beloved individual who will be deeply missed, thanking those who had shared her missing person’s flyer and helped keep her story alive in public discourse.

In a past interview, Coffey’s mother, Trinettea Williamson, recounted the last moments she spent with her daughter. Williamson had given Coffey a lift to work in late April 2019 and remembered their final exchange, which included Coffey requesting a small sum of money via a Cash App transfer. Concern began to grow when Coffey did not reach out on Mother’s Day, a day that held special significance to their relationship.

The FBI provided a description of Coffey in their bulletins, noting her collar-length brown hair, which she often styled differently using wigs. They even noted a reward of up to £7,800 for information leading to Coffey’s recovery. Unfortunately, that information has now tragically culminated in the identification of her remains rather than her safe return.

Williamson had characterised her daughter as someone who deeply valued family connections and had a considerable support network. “She’s somebody’s daughter. She’s somebody’s sister,” she stated, emphasising the many people who cared about Coffey and the need for answers regarding her case.

As the investigation continues, authorities are hopeful that the discovery of Coffey’s remains will lead to further insights into her disappearance.
