Male Model Allegedly Beaten to Death After Leaving Halloween Party: Prosecutors

A court case has emerged following the violent death of 37-year-old male model Luke Harden, whose life was taken in a brutal altercation in Bacup, Lancashire, after a Halloween party in 2025. The incident, which occurred just after midnight on 1st November, has aroused significant public interest and raised questions about the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

Authorities reported that Harden was discovered on Newchurch Road, beaten and unresponsive. Paramedics were on scene administering CPR when police arrived, but sadly, Harden was pronounced dead shortly thereafter due to “catastrophic” injuries, which included severe trauma to his face, described as “caved in.”

Following the incident, Bhekisani Matabiswana, 26, and his then-girlfriend Natalie Chadwick, 27, both of Bacup, were taken into custody and charged with murder shortly thereafter. While Chadwick was later exonerated in January 2026 when prosecutors conceded they lacked sufficient evidence against her, Matabiswana has pleaded not guilty and is currently undergoing trial.

In the proceedings that have unfolded, jurors heard accounts of how both men had attended the same Halloween celebration but were previously unknown to each other. The two were reported to have engaged in a confrontation after leaving the gathering, under the influence of alcohol and possibly other substances. Prosecutors suggested that Harden may have been intoxicated to the point that he could not adequately defend himself.

The court heard that Matabiswana and Chadwick departed the party prior to Harden. As Harden followed them onto Newchurch Road, he reportedly communicated with a friend about feeling overwhelmed and contemplating going home. However, before he could leave, a passing motorist saw Harden engaging in a brief interaction with the driver of a nearby car.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as Harden stumbled onto the street and hurled a road sign to the ground. Following this disturbance, Matabiswana allegedly initiated the assault on Harden, purportedly claiming that Harden had interfered with Chadwick. Prosecutors described the attack as “sudden, quick, and brutal,” asserting that it left Harden unable to protect himself.

In the account provided to the jury, Matabiswana allegedly threw Harden to the ground, proceeding to stomp on and kick him in the head. There were indications, prosecutors noted, that while Matabiswana may not have intended to kill Harden specifically, he did appear to have a clear intention to inflict serious injury.

Upon paramedics’ arrival, Matabiswana reportedly attempted to characterise the events differently, claiming that Harden had simply fallen over and was struggling to breathe. However, investigators uncovered text messages in Matabiswana’s possession that raised alarms, including communications where he boasted about having “beat someone up” for attempting to assault a woman.

During police interviews, Matabiswana’s legal representation stated that he never aimed to kill or cause grievous harm to Harden, asserting that he acted in self-defence against the allegations that Harden had tried to grab Chadwick. This defensive stance has been a focal point of the trial.

Friends and family members of Luke Harden have gathered in support throughout the proceedings, following a GoFundMe campaign set up to assist his family with funeral expenses. A friend described Harden as one of the most “lovable and authentic people” they had known, emphasizing the sense of loss being felt within the community.

As the trial continues, attention remains fixed on the unfolding details of the case, with the jury tasked with determining the facts surrounding this tragic incident and the extent of Matabiswana’s culpability. The legal process will reveal critical insights into the events that transpired that fateful night.
