Ian Somerhalder, known for his role in the hit series *The Vampire Diaries*, has shared insights into the significant hurdles he and his wife, actress Nikki Reed, faced after transitioning away from acting. Since retiring from acting in 2019, Somerhalder has focused on entrepreneurship, but the couple found themselves grappling with substantial financial issues stemming from a business venture he described as mismanaged.

The 47-year-old actor elaborated on their struggles during a recent appearance at the Beverage Forum in Manhattan Beach, California, stating that they encountered “financial upheaval from building a business that I didn’t build properly.” Somerhalder revealed that he and Reed fell into “an eight-figure hole” due to what he described as “fraud,” a situation that presented them with a daunting challenge.

“It was a hard hole to climb out of, but Nikki and I did it,” Somerhalder reflected, acknowledging the significant role his wife played in their recovery. He credited Reed for her remarkable negotiation skills, which were crucial in helping them navigate their way out of dire circumstances.

In a bid to overcome their financial strain, the couple resorted to selling off their assets. Somerhalder recounted how they divested properties, artwork, luxury vehicles, and even personal items like watches. “We sold everything,” he remarked, highlighting the comprehensive effort they made to regain financial stability.

Despite having secured the rights back for *V Wars*, Somerhalder indicated that a return to acting is unlikely. “I just don’t know how the hell we would ever make a TV show. We’re building three companies at the same time, raising kids,” he said, marking a clear departure from his previous career in front of the camera.
