New York Family’s Missing Cat Found in Wyoming Nearly 3 Years After Pet’s Disappearance

A New York couple, Annie and Chris Rosales, experienced an extraordinary reunion with their beloved cat, Lily, two and a half years after she went missing during a cross-country relocation from San Francisco to New York City.

In 2023, the Rosales family decided to embark on a journey across the United States, making the move in their RV. The family, consisting of Annie, Chris, their daughter, two cats, and a new baby on the way, stopped in Wyoming to appreciate the breathtaking beauty of Yellowstone National Park. “Yellowstone was this amazing, beautiful place, and it was our favourite stop there,” Chris recalled, reflecting on that peak moment of their trip.

However, their excitement soon turned to concern when they realised that Lily, who they referred to as their first pet, was missing from the RV. “She was like our first baby,” Chris mentioned, noting that they had adopted her long before the birth of their daughter. The couple spent an additional day searching for Lily in the area surrounding their RV but ultimately had no choice but to continue their journey without her. “It was so hard leaving,” Annie expressed, acknowledging the emotional toll of the decision.

Despite the passage of time, the Rosales family held onto hope. However, as months turned into years, their friends in Wyoming, who had assisted with search efforts, relocated, reducing the likelihood of Lily being found. The couple thought they may have seen the last of their furry companion.

Then, out of the blue, they received a message from Jack and Rebecca Deal, a couple living in Wyoming, claiming they had found a cat that matched Lily’s description. Jack noted that when they first encountered the cat, they noticed she was wearing a collar that appeared to be tight. The Deals had taken it upon themselves to feed stray cats that frequented their property, and even though the cat was initially skittish, they eventually managed to capture her long enough to retrieve her collar.

After reading the phone number on the collar, they reached out to the Rosales family. Chris was quick to recognise Lily from the photos sent by the Deals. “From their perspective, they figured, ‘Oh, whose cat is this? They must be looking for him,’” Chris explained, amused at the thought of the couple’s surprise upon learning the true situation. “They weren’t expecting that we were in New York and had missed this cat for two years.”

Upon receiving the news of their cat’s discovery, the Rosales family was overwhelmed with emotion. “We were hysterical, laughing and crying at the same time,” Annie shared. It wasn’t long before she took the initiative to book a flight to Wyoming, eager to bring Lily back to her family in New York.

Annie described the poignant moment of reunion, stating, “(The Deals) picked me up at the airport with Lily in the car, and so I saw her right away.” Both Annie and the Deals were deeply emotional, with tears in abundance. “You’re just kind of laughing because it was just like, this is unbelievable,” she recounted.

Lily’s reaction to her owner was heartwarming, as she immediately began rubbing against Annie and purring contentedly. Despite the trepidation about moving from the picturesque setting of Wyoming to the urban environment of the Bronx, Annie couldn’t contain her joy. She remarked that she told every person who inquired about the cat carrier, “You’re not gonna believe what just happened.”

This heartwarming reunion serves as a poignant reminder of the bonds between pet owners and their animals, highlighting the lengths to which people will go to reunite with their beloved companions. For the Rosales family, Lily’s return not only signifies the revival of their family unit but also the enduring love and resilience found in the connection between humans and their furry friends.
