K-pop sensation MONSTA X has made an exciting comeback with the release of their latest album, titled ‘Unfold,’ which hit the shelves on 3 April 2026. This marks a significant moment for the band, as they have reunited after a hiatus that started in 2023, during which several members fulfilled their mandatory military service.

The six-member group, comprised of SHOWNU, MINHYUK, KIHYUN, HYUNGWON, JOOHONEY, and I.M, shared insights into their reunion during a recent interview with PEOPLE. Contrary to what some might expect, their first gathering didn’t involve emotional embraces. KIHYUN quipped, “Nah, we’re boys,” showcasing the camaraderie between the members.
After returning from their military duties, the band wasted no time in getting back to work. “We just released our new album and we prepared a concert,” SHOWNU revealed, emphasising the intensity of their schedule following their reunion. The group certainly did not allow any room for relaxation as they dove straight into their busy routines.
When asked to summarise the essence of ‘Unfold,’ the members provided insightful responses. SHOWNU described it as “honesty,” while MINHYUK chose the word “love.” These descriptors reflect the personal and genuine nature of the album, which fans have eagerly awaited.
MONSTA X also commemorated a significant milestone last year, celebrating their 10th anniversary in August 2025. This was a particularly memorable time for them, as they not only marked a decade in the industry but also released a brand-new album, titled ‘The X,’ in September.
However, the excitement surrounding their reunion was tempered by the announcement in December 2025 that member I.M would not partake in the ‘THE X: NEXUS’ tour or international engagements in 2026 due to back pain and his impending military enlistment. This information was shared with fans through a screenshot on social media, raising concerns about his health and future with the band.
In a prior interview, I.M discussed his solo work, expressing his desire to explore his identity through music. “I just don’t care about what people think of me,” he stated, adding that his journey in music was often tied to self-discovery. He elaborated on the importance of creativity in understanding oneself, indicating that each moment is a chance to learn and grow.
During the time surrounding the release of their previous album, ‘The Dreaming,’ the band had managed to keep in touch with their international fans despite SHOWNU’s military service at the time. They expressed humility regarding their global popularity, with I.M candidly admitting, “To be honest, we didn’t think that we made a success.” KIHYUN echoed this sentiment, stating, “Not yet,” suggesting a continuous pursuit of greater heights.
Emphasising their connection with fans, I.M expressed their commitment to engaging with supporters through various social media platforms. “We really just want to communicate with our fans in lots of ways, because that’s why we are using lots of social media like Twitter, Instagram, YouTube,” he said. In light of the challenges posed by the pandemic, the band has aimed to increase their interaction with fans through digital channels.
