The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies initiated a traffic stop after spotting the vehicle, which had recently been reported as stolen. However, rather than complying, the driver chose to flee, prompting a police pursuit that stretched onto a highway.
According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle, occupied by two male suspects, led officers on a chase before making an unexpected exit from the highway. During this time, a rather alarming situation developed when the passenger of the vehicle decided to toss a chainsaw and various other objects, described as rope-like items, out of the window. The intention behind these actions, as explained by the sheriff’s office, appeared to be an attempt to incapacitate the police vehicles trailing them.

As the men continued to evade capture, the stolen vehicle eventually became immobilised, leading both suspects to abandon the car and flee on foot. Their escape was short-lived, however, as law enforcement quickly moved in to apprehend them.
The passenger, a 31-year-old man whose identity has not been disclosed, was captured after allegedly being bitten by a police dog during the arrest process. Following his capture, he is expected to face a series of charges, including possession of tools used for motor vehicle theft, eluding arrest, and first-degree assault. The latter charge stems from the dangerous act of throwing a chainsaw and other items at the pursuing officers—an action that posed a significant risk of injury.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 28-year-old man, was also arrested and is facing charges related to felony eluding and the theft of a motor vehicle. The incident highlights the risks that law enforcement officers often face when dealing with stolen vehicles and individuals attempting to evade arrest.
Local residents and authorities are relieved that no injuries were reported during the pursuit and subsequent arrest. The use of a police dog to apprehend one of the suspects has drawn comments regarding the effectiveness of such measures in ensuring public safety in potentially volatile situations.
As investigations continue, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office has expressed a commitment to ensuring that such crimes are addressed vigorously. Both men are currently in custody as they await further legal proceedings.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of police work and the lengths to which some individuals may go to evade capture. The use of unconventional weapons like a chainsaw during a police pursuit underlines the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order and safety within the community.
As this case develops, further updates will likely be provided by the authorities, especially regarding any court proceedings relating to the suspects’ charges. In the meantime, the local community remains on alert as law enforcement continues its efforts to curb such criminal activities.
