In a recent interview, Kayti Edwards, the step-granddaughter of famed actress Julie Andrews, shared insights about her relationship with music icon Cher and revealed how Cher has begun to embrace her role as a grandmother. Edwards, who has a 15-year-old daughter named Ever with Cher’s son, Elijah Blue Allman, indicated that Cher is gradually coming to terms with the unexpected news of her grandchild.

Kayti Edwards spoke to *The Sun* about meeting Cher last year, describing the singer as “lovely and kind.” Edwards, a former model now operating a horse rescue centre in Joshua Tree, California, recalled how she first informed Cher about Ever, whom she conceived in 2010 during a brief romantic involvement with Allman. Edwards noted that Allman had initially distanced himself from parenting, stating he “never wanted to be a parent.”

The revelation about Ever first surfaced following a drug overdose involving Allman in 2021, during which he disclosed to his estranged wife the existence of his daughter. According to Edwards, this revelation sparked speculation among family members, however, it wasn’t until last summer that Cher reached out directly to confirm the news. Edwards recounted that when Cher contacted her, she initially had to admit the truth, stating, “She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021 but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk.” Cher’s reaction was one of astonishment; she was reportedly speechless upon learning of Ever’s existence.
Since that initial conversation, Cher has been making efforts to develop a relationship with Ever. Edwards shared that Cher invited her and Ever to stay at her Malibu home last September. Describing the visit, Edwards said, “She was lovely and kind, and we had dinner.” Cher showcased her playful side, asking Ever if she would like to see her iconic concert wardrobe, which included a special pair of jeans. Edwards noted that Cher engaged in light-hearted conversations with Ever, speaking about school and even asking her about boys.
Cher is seemingly making strides in her new role, sending gifts to Ever for both Christmas and her birthday. Edwards expressed optimism about this evolving relationship but remained mindful of pacing it naturally. “Cher really is trying. It’s an adjustment, and I’m not pushing any relationship,” she remarked.
However, this familial moment comes against a backdrop of serious personal challenges for Elijah Blue Allman. Recently, Cher filed a request for temporary conservatorship for her son, citing ongoing struggles with addiction. This request follows her previous attempt at conservatorship, which she withdrew after coming to a private agreement with Allman in September 2022. In her latest filing, Cher described Allman as “gravely disabled” and incapable of managing his financial resources, linking his condition to severe mental health issues stemming from addiction.
Allman’s family has echoed Cher’s concerns. His half-brother, Devon Allman, has also expressed worries about Elijah’s wellbeing, asserting that he represents a danger to himself and lacks control over his life. Recent incidents have underscored these concerns, with Allman facing arrests in New Hampshire owing to disturbances, raising alarm about his state of mind and behaviour.
Edwards shared that she only recently revealed to Ever that Elijah is her father, carefully navigating this sensitive situation. “He wanted to see her and have a relationship with her, but he wasn’t in any state,” she explained. With a hope for Allman’s recovery, Edwards remarked, “I had to shelter her from him, and when he gets better, he will appreciate that.” She emphasised that a return to his former self is crucial, stating, “All of us agree that he needs to get better.”
As the story continues to develop, Allman is awaiting court proceedings related to his legal challenges. A hearing is scheduled regarding the conservatorship, as well as ongoing cases connected to his recent arrests. The unfolding dynamics within this family reflect both the struggles of addiction and the unexpected joys of reconnecting, as Cher endeavours to form a bond with her granddaughter amid tumultuous times.
