Taylor Frankie Paul, a cast member from the reality series “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” recently opened up about her journey towards healing, describing it as a challenging process filled with painful moments. Her remarks come shortly after prosecutors decided not to pursue charges against her following a series of domestic violence allegations involving her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.

In a candid Instagram post shared on Sunday, Paul, who is 31, addressed the difficult “ugly parts” of healing after living through what she termed a “public atrocity.” This followed investigations by two separate police departments in Utah regarding alleged altercations between Paul and Mortensen, with whom she shares a two-year-old son, Ever.
Paul expressed her sentiments in a reflective caption, stating, “Here come the ugly parts of what healing actually looks like. If you know me, you know I’ll admit my parts, flaws, and faults. We’ll get there.” She emphasised the toll that the public scrutiny had taken, commenting, “This public atrocity that I not only lived through once but twice now, on even a bigger scale was ultimately the cost to my freedom.”

The aftermath of her recent domestic troubles has compelled Paul to confront her past with gratitude, as she shared her commitment to healing. “I cried on my knees in pain while also saying THANK YOU,” she wrote, signalling a sense of relief and renewal as she moves forward. “We have a road ahead but regardless I’m forever freed from a certain living hell I couldn’t find my way out of,” she continued.
Paul credited a divine intervention for the recent turn of events, noting that her charges were dropped precisely seven weeks after her arrest. “God undoubtedly had a hand in this,” she commented. She plans to share her journey towards recovery, as well as the methods she is employing, such as focusing on diet, movement, and rest. The reality star stated, “If my worst is shared, better bet I’ll share the rebuilding, too.”
In a subsequent post on her Instagram Stories, Paul revealed that she had been diagnosed with PTSD two years ago and suggested that this may now be classified as complex PTSD according to multiple therapists who have assessed her situation.
The incidents leading to her arrest in 2023 included allegations that Paul had thrown metal chairs at Mortensen during a confrontation that reportedly took place while her young daughter was present. Although the assault took place in early 2023, it gained renewed attention following the release of a video showing the altercation. The footage depicted Paul in a heated argument with Mortensen, prompting investigations by the Draper City Police Department and the West Jordan Police Department.
Both departments confirmed ongoing investigations, noting that allegations had been made in both directions. Mortensen also sought a protective order against Paul on March 19, amid claims of abusive conduct. Paul subsequently filed her own protective order against him on April 7, outlining claims of abusive behaviour within their relationship.
On April 14, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office announced it would not be pressing charges against Paul, stating that many of the alleged incidents were beyond the statute of limitations or did not meet the criteria for criminal offences. A judge subsequently awarded Mortensen custodial rights of Ever, with Paul permitted limited supervised visitation.
The situation surrounding Paul has also had significant implications for her career. Following the release of the video of the alleged incident, ABC cancelled her season of “The Bachelorette,” which had already been filmed and was set to premiere shortly thereafter.
Amid the controversy, some of Paul’s castmates, including Jessi Draper, have publicly expressed their support for her. Draper shared a heartfelt message on Instagram following the announcement of the dropped charges, praising her friend’s resilience.
As Paul navigates her healing process while managing the fallout from her public ordeal, she continually highlights the importance of support and the complexities of recovery. Her openness about her struggles serves to shed light on the often-hidden realities many face in similar circumstances, encouraging dialogue around mental health and domestic violence.
For those affected by domestic violence, support is available. Individuals can reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, which provides confidential assistance around the clock.
