The backdrop to this investigation includes a police probe in Washington, D.C., which looked into three claims of sexual assault against Shawn DeRemer. These allegations reportedly led to his ban from entering Labour Department headquarters. Details emerging from the probe suggest that Richard Chavez sent a message to a young female employee in April 2025, indicating he was aware of her presence in town and expressing a desire to meet privately. In his message, he stated, “I could have made some excuses to get out and show you around. Please keep this private.” A few weeks later, Shawn DeRemer allegedly reached out to the same staff member with a message hinting at personal grievances and referencing a religious context.
