Emily Traveller, a 20-year-old social media influencer, has shared an inspiring account of how her father stepped up to assist her with her beauty routine following a traumatic accident that left her paralysed at the age of 16. The former high school student turned to the platform TikTok to document her journey and has since garnered an impressive following of over 630,000.

In a recent video posted online, Traveller showcased her morning routine, which highlights the remarkable support from her father, who has learned to navigate her beauty regimen. In the footage, viewers can see him help her out of bed and into her wheelchair, followed by dressing her and assisting with her skincare and hair styling.
Traveller expressed pride in her father’s progress, stating, “My dad tried blow drying my hair today and did actually so good, I’m so proud.” This reflects not only a touching father-daughter relationship but also her father’s dedication to adapting to new responsibilities since her accident.
During her rehabilitation at Craig Hospital in Colorado, which is recognised as a leading institution for spinal injury recovery, Traveller learned how to adjust to her new lifestyle with considerable input from both her family and occupational therapists. Despite her accident, she has forged a path forward, with support from her parents and sisters.
“I typically have my mum help with my morning routine during the weekdays, while my dad is keen to assist on the weekends,” she explained. Recalling the pre-accident days, she added, “Growing up, if my mother was unavailable to style my hair, my dad would attempt to help, resulting in low, loose, and somewhat frightening ponytails.” However, since her life-altering event, her father has made a concerted effort to improve his skills.
Traveller described her dad as a sports enthusiast with his own construction business, highlighting his evolution as a caregiver. “He’s traditionally tough, but he has been working hard to adjust to his new role,” she noted. “I’m genuinely proud of my dad and how vulnerable he has become. I love him dearly.”
In addition to her father’s newfound involvement, Traveller stressed the importance of her supportive family. “I’m fortunate to have a solid family structure that helps me immensely,” she commented. “One sister is a hairstylist, so she assists with anything related to hair and colour. Another sister has an eye for fashion and skincare, while my youngest sister loves make-up and is always eager to lend a hand.”
Further supporting her daily needs is her mother, who plays a pivotal role in coordinating and managing these efforts. “My mum fills in all the gaps; she is effectively our manager,” Traveller revealed, emphasizing the familial teamwork that has enabled her to navigate her new circumstances.
Despite the challenges she faces, Traveller has expressed feelings of guilt for the love and support she receives. “I strive to pay it forward in everything I do,” she affirmed. “I enjoy visiting those who may need a friend or are facing difficulties. Staying positive is crucial for me, particularly in the realm of social media. I celebrate the successes of others, recognising that everyone is fighting their own battles.”
As part of her mission, Traveller actively seeks opportunities to deliver motivational talks at schools and events, promoting a message of love and hope. “It brings me immense satisfaction,” she stated.
In addition to public speaking, Traveller is collaborating with her mother to write a book that will share their perspectives on the accident, the recovery process, and the invaluable life lessons garnered along the way.
Looking ahead, Traveller has an exciting list of goals for the year, which includes engaging in adaptive sports such as skiing, biking, and possibly even skydiving. Her story, reflecting resilience and growth, continues to resonate with many and offers hope to those in similar situations.
