In a rare live address on Thursday, April 9, First Lady Melania Trump took to the airwaves to vehemently deny any connection to Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender. The first lady described recent claims linking her to Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell as “lies” and insisted that such falsehoods must cease.

“I urge people to stop spreading false information about me,” Melania Trump stated, emphasising the need for integrity in public discourse. “The individuals perpetuating these lies are lacking in ethical standards, humility, and respect. Their attempts to defame my reputation are mean-spirited and politically motivated,” she asserted during the televised statement.
In her remarks, Mrs Trump addressed the circulation of “numerous fake images and statements” regarding her supposed connections to Epstein, cautioning the public to be sceptical of claims often featured on social media. “These stories are completely false,” she asserted, urging the public to be discerning about what they accept as truth.
Melania, who is 55 years old, refuted longstanding speculation that Epstein had introduced her to her husband, President Donald Trump. She clarified that her first encounter with Donald, which occurred at a party in 1998, is documented in her recently published memoir. “I never had any friendship with Epstein,” she clarified, explaining how their social circles overlapped in New York City and Palm Beach.
The First Lady recalled her initial interaction with Epstein in the year 2000, during a social event that she attended with her husband. “At that time, I had no knowledge of his criminal activities,” she noted, distancing herself further from the notorious figure.
Melania also addressed emails discovered in Epstein’s files that featured her in correspondence with Maxwell. She downplayed the significance of these communications, stating, “My reply to Maxwell should not be interpreted as anything other than casual correspondence.” She firmly rejected any suggestion of a relationship with either Epstein or Maxwell, adding that her communication amounting to a trivial note should not imply a deeper connection.
Jeffrey Epstein’s past includes a conviction for soliciting sex from minors, and he died in a New York prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in 2021 on similar charges for her role in Epstein’s operations and is currently serving her sentence in Texas.
The First Lady further highlighted the absence of any legal implications concerning her regarding Epstein. “I am not a witness nor have I ever been associated with any of Epstein’s crimes,” she asserted. “My name has never appeared in court documents or depositions related to Epstein, nor have I participated in any inquiries regarding his abuses. I was never a passenger on his plane and never visited his private island.”
In a more poignant conclusion to her statement, Melania Trump called upon Congress to support the victims of Epstein’s abuse. She proposed that they should be granted a platform to share their experiences publicly. “We must work transparently to uncover the truth,” she stressed. “I urge Congress to hold a public hearing that allows these women, who have suffered unimaginable trauma, to testify under oath.”
Mrs Trump expressed the importance of giving these survivors the opportunity to present their testimony in front of Congress. “This is crucial for establishing a permanent record of their accounts, and only then will we begin to unveil the truth,” she concluded.
