Son of Mother Killed in Murder-Suicide Says ‘Long Road’ Ahead After Surviving Multiple Gunshots

In a tragic incident in Kearns, Utah, a young man has bravely recounted the harrowing moments when gunfire erupted in his family home, resulting in the death of his mother and serious injuries to him and his sister. Christian Timothy, the survivor of the attack, was on the phone with a friend when chaos unfolded on the fateful evening of March 30.

Christian described the horrifying incident to local news outlet KSTU, detailing his disbelief as the shooting began. Initially unaware of the lethal threat, he realised he was being targeted only after he was struck by bullets. His friend, Tricia Cruikshank, who was on the line during the ordeal, reported hearing the disturbing sounds and recognised something was grievously wrong. “I was like, ‘What’s going on? What happened?’” Cruikshank recalled, and Christian’s panicked response, “He shot me, he shot me,” confirmed her fears.

The alleged shooter, Floyd Allred, was Christian’s stepfather. Reports indicate that Floyd shot his wife, 61-year-old Kaylene Allred, before ultimately taking his own life. In the midst of this domestic violence tragedy, Christian and his sister Brittany sustained multiple gunshot wounds but managed to escape the immediate danger.

As Christian recuperates from his physical injuries, he finds himself grappling with emotional distress. He shared that the road to recovery is daunting, expressing his inability to simply rest, stating, “The people who I’m staying with are constantly like, ‘You need to rest, you need to take it easy,’ and I can’t.” The young survivor emphasised the need to stay busy to cope with the aftermath of such a traumatic event.

In the lead-up to the shooting, Christian revealed that he had felt a growing sense of unease regarding the potential for violence in their household. He cited his stepfather’s struggles with addiction and mental health issues as contributing factors to the terrifying situation that ultimately unfolded. “The sad truth is, for the past year I’ve feared that something like this was coming. I even expressed my concern to my dad that he was losing it,” Christian lamented, illustrating the desperate signs that went unaddressed in the home.

Now facing the emotional burden of losing his mother, Christian reflects on his grief, which he describes as coming in waves. He recounted how the reality of her absence hasn’t fully settled in, stating, “There are moments where I think, ‘Oh, I can ask my mum, oh, I want to call my mum’ … and I can’t.” Despite the profound anger stemming from the situation, he acknowledged a complicated relationship with his stepfather, sharing, “No matter how mad I am over the situation, he was still my dad.”

The disturbing circumstances of this incident were further compounded when it was reported that Kaylene was on the phone with a 911 operator when the shots were fired, indicating a domestic dispute within the home. The dispatcher overheard Kaylene’s screams intertwined with gunfire before communication abruptly ceased. Upon police arrival, both Kaylene and Floyd were found deceased, while Christian and Brittany were urgently transported to a medical facility due to their injuries.

To support the surviving siblings in the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established. The fundraiser organiser described Brittany and Christian as victims of a “senseless act of domestic violence.” The initiative aims to alleviate the escalating medical and funeral expenses they are now facing.

Brittany, noted as a caring individual who has faced her own health struggles, is receiving considerable support from the community. Christian, too, is described as a devoted father, with a plea for assistance that highlights the importance of his return to health for the wellbeing of his young daughter.
