Jason Kelce and his wife, Kylie, have recently expanded their family by adopting a German Shepherd puppy from the Pennsylvania SPCA. The couple, who share four daughters, are currently grappling with finding the perfect name for their new furry companion.

On the latest episode of Jason’s podcast, New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason shared insights into the ongoing naming saga. Initially, the puppy was to be called “Bernadette,” as mentioned by Kylie on a special FAFO episode that aired on March 31. However, the discussions surrounding the puppy’s name have evolved dramatically since then.

During the April 8 podcast, Jason revealed that the pup has been affectionately nicknamed “Freddie,” a name that has gained traction among family members. “This is Frida, or as everyone is calling her Freddie. Everyone is calling her Freddie around the house,” he explained, showcasing his family’s affectionate bond with their new pet.
Interestingly, Jason, sporting a playful persona, expressed a fondness for yet another name. “I am calling her Gunda,” he announced in a light-hearted German accent, adding an amusing twist to the day-to-day interactions with the canine. This prompted a teasing response from Travis, who questioned why his brother was speaking in an accent. Jason cheekily justified it, saying, “She’s German.”
The naming convention took another turn when Kylie weighed in on the episode just two days earlier. “Her name is Matilda,” she declared, although she hesitated with the follow-up “We think,” indicating that the family was still undecided. Kylie also mentioned that “Broomhilda” was a strong contender, a suggestion that elicited laughter. “Jason deadass thought we were going to name a dog Broomhilda,” she quipped, adding some humour to their deliberation.
This light-hearted approach to naming reflects the dynamics of the Kelce household, which includes their four daughters — Wyatt (6), Elliotte (5), Bennett (3), and Finn (1). Stemming from this lively family atmosphere, Kylie was quick to remind listeners about the naming debates they’ve had for their children, showing an intriguing insight into their parenting journey.
Their extended family also includes an Irish Wolfhound named Nessie, whom they adopted in September 2024 after the loss of their previous dog, Winnie. This latest addition fits into a growing tradition of pets that enrich the Kelce family’s life.
In addition to their canine companions, Kylie has been eyeing the possibility of welcoming a cat into their home. She has even enlisted the support of her future sister-in-law, singer Taylor Swift, who is an avid cat lover. “I’ve met some very cute cats, but like I’ve said a million times, we’re not ready for that,” Kylie admitted. She is optimistic about the future, stating, “When I am ready for that, I’m going to march my ass right back to the PSPCA, and I’m going to find me a cat that wants to come home and live at the Kelce household.”
As for the puppy, it appears the Kelce family will continue to enjoy the playful debate over her name, reflecting both their fun-centric family culture and the love they have for their pets. With several contenders already put forward and more likely to arise, it remains to be seen what final name will emerge for this beloved new member of their family.
