In a charming celebration reflecting their love for Pixar, Brittany Maturan and Bryan Rubio hosted a Ratatouille-themed engagement party that transported their 75 guests to the whimsical world of the beloved animated film. Held outdoors on 14 March in Glendora, California, the event was meticulously planned and executed, showcasing the couple’s creativity and affection for each other.

Drawing early inspiration from the 2007 film, the couple described the engagement party as a “chef’s kiss” celebration. Maturan, a Disney lifestyle content creator, and her fiancé decided to keep the party’s theme a secret until the big reveal. “We didn’t really want to tell anyone that our theme was Ratatouille because we didn’t want to ruin the surprise. When our family and friends saw everything, they were obsessed and truly didn’t expect anything less,” she shared.

The atmosphere was lively and reminiscent of a Parisian bistro, featuring tables dressed in red checkered tablecloths. The decor was enriched with glass candles and delicate hydrangeas housed in repurposed tomato cans, alongside empty wine glasses lit by twinkling lights. Further empowered by the Ratatouille theme, a stunning charcuterie board and live pizza chefs entertained guests while they indulged in a variety of delights.

Signature drinks played a significant role in the event’s theme, with four unique concoctions inspired by the film: the “Remy-Rita,” “Ego-Fashioned,” “Linguini’s Lemonade,” and “Le Petit Sour.” Maturan noted that the couple also aimed to create an immersive experience, referencing the Bistrot Chez Rémy restaurant in Disneyland Paris. This restaurant’s logo adorned custom cups and napkins, enhancing the overall ambience.

The couple’s attention to detail extended to dessert, where hand-drawn cookies decorated with iconic phrases from the film, such as “Anyone Can Cook!” were a highlight. Guests were so astounded by the visual presentation that many hesitated to eat the impressive creations. Maturan commented, “Our guests were so obsessed with the presentation of the cookies and the charcuterie layout they didn’t want to eat them!”

The inspiration for the theme stemmed from a personalised experience on a regular Friday night for the couple. Maturan recounted a night spent watching Ratatouille while enjoying a homemade charcuterie board. “It was a night where we felt so ‘us’ that we both just knew this had to be our theme,” she explained, expressing how they wanted their party to authentically reflect their relationship.

Maturan and Rubio wanted to break away from conventional themes typically shared on platforms like Pinterest and TikTok, acknowledging their identity as the “Disney couple” among family and friends. “We were torn because we’ve always been known as the ‘Disney couple,’ but didn’t want something too Disney,” Maturan elaborated.

The planning process spanned approximately six weeks and involved Maturan working with her mother to convert vision boards made on Canva into reality. Their vibrant storytelling style underscored the effort placed into every aspect of the party.

Before becoming engaged, the couple’s history began in elementary school, where they initially crossed paths. Their friendship blossomed later in 2016 at the gym before Rubio left for military service. In a meaningful turn of events, he asked her to be his girlfriend on Main Street in Disneyland shortly after returning to California in 2017. Their romantic journey reached a milestone when Rubio proposed at Osaka Castle during a trip to Japan late last year.
