Stanley’s Northeast Bar Room in Minneapolis has become known for more than just its vibrant atmosphere; it has also gained a reputation for frequent vehicle collisions. Since its opening in 2010, the popular establishment has been involved in over 20 incidents where cars have crashed into its premises, the latest of which occurred on April 6.
On that day, an alarming incident unfolded when a Chevy Silverado truck collided with the front of the bar, which is located near the junction of University Avenue Northeast and Lowry Avenue. The collision led to a temporary closure of the establishment as staff dealt with the aftermath. Photos shared on social media captured the chaotic scene, displaying shattered windows with the bar’s illuminated signs still shining overhead. One image revealed the wall starting to cave in, exacerbated by shattered barstools that had been propelled forward into the main area. The damage to the truck itself was substantial, with its hood forcibly opened and bumper sagging, indicative of the severity of the crash.
According to reports from the Minneapolis police, the vehicle involved was travelling westbound on Lowry Avenue when it entered the intersection against a solid red light. The truck allegedly struck multiple vehicles before veering into Stanley’s, ultimately leading to the dramatic crash.

Jack Hammond, the assistant general manager, expressed that such experiences are eye-opening and lend urgency to discussions about safety measures. He recounted the frequency of these occurrences: “We’ve had plenty of people drive into the side of our building, unfortunately. This one, as long as I’ve been here, is probably the farthest the car got into our building.”
The persistence of these collisions has raised questions about safety in the area. In light of the continuing incidents, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is reportedly taking steps to enhance safety and usability along University Avenue Northeast. Hammond noted that proactive measures are essential, stating, “After something like this happens, it can be eye-opening, and we’ll think about what we can do to prevent something like that.” The bar’s management is hopeful that the upcoming construction will make the area safer for both patrons and vehicles.
