A touching tale of resilience and companionship has emerged from a Maryland animal rescue facility, where a three-legged dog and her feline counterpart have found a new home together. The inseparable duo, Blueberry the French Bulldog mix and Meadow the black kitten, were adopted together by a couple, Rachel Clarke and Kevin Tsang, who already have experience caring for pets with special needs.

Both animals had faced severe challenges that resulted in the loss of limbs. Blueberry, a one-year-old French bulldog mix, was discovered abandoned on the roadside with severe injuries, necessitating the amputation of one of her front legs. Meadow, a seven-month-old kitten, arrived at Last Chance Animal Rescue with significant damage to her hind leg, which also required amputation.
The bond between Blueberry and Meadow blossomed while the pair recuperated at the rescue’s veterinary hospital. According to a post from Last Chance Animal Rescue on Facebook, the two quickly became inseparable, providing each other with comfort during a challenging recovery period. “They met while recovering at our vet hospital and quickly became inseparable. Two three-legged survivors learning how to navigate the world again, side by side,” the post stated.
The rescue organisation hoped to see the two adopted as a pair, emphasising the need for loving homes where they could continue to thrive. Their wish was fulfilled when Clarke and Tsang decided to adopt them together, after Tsang came across their story on social media. The couple, based in Fort Washington, Maryland, are not new to the experience of caring for three-legged animals; in fact, they had adopted a cat named Cici, who also has a missing limb, earlier in March this year.
Jamie Bazell, a spokesperson for Last Chance Animal Rescue, expressed that Clarke and Tsang were a suitable match for Blueberry and Meadow among a pool of many applicants, primarily due to their effective prior experience. “Fate brought them together, right?” Clarke reflected, voicing their commitment to keeping the pair united.
As Blueberry and Meadow settled into their new surroundings, they found temporary accommodation in a guest room while Clarke and Tsang gradually introduced them to their two other pets, Cici and a cat named Sherlock. The adjustment is going smoothly, with the pets reportedly enjoying playtime together, sharing toys, and lounging in the golden sunlight that streams into their new home.
In a conversation with The Washington Post, Tsang expressed admiration for the pair’s ability to cope with their past traumas. “They’ve been through so much already. But yet they still have so much to offer through their love,” he said, highlighting the remarkable spirits of both animals despite their previous hardships.
