Former ‘Boy Meets World’ star Danielle Fishel is relishing life as a cancer survivor following her stage 0 breast cancer diagnosis in 2024. Now 44 years old, Fishel has successfully gone through two surgeries and completed a rigorous course of 20 rounds of radiation. Her determination and resilience have left her cancer-free, and she is eager to share her journey and newfound joy.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE for their In 10 series, Fishel opened up about her experiences and what brings her joy in her everyday life. “I absolutely love hosting my podcasts,” she said, expressing her enthusiasm for this thriving new chapter in her career. Fishel currently leads the podcast *Pod Meets World*, where she engages with her former co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle. Additionally, she hosts *Teen Beat*, a solo endeavour that connects her with fans and conversations from her formative years.
The actress’s camaraderie with her past colleagues is evident as she reflected on their long-standing friendships. “Being with friends who have known you since you were 12 years old, who support you through life’s highs and lows, reminds you what life is ultimately about,” Fishel remarked. The trio, who originally played teenagers on the iconic sitcom, have continued their journey together, recently reprising their roles in the Disney sequel *Girl Meets World* from 2014 to 2017, which centres on family dynamics and growing up.
In addition to her professional triumphs, Fishel’s life has been enriched by her family. She married Jensen Karp in 2018, and they share two young sons, Adler Lawrence, aged six, and four-year-old Keaton Joseph. Fishel beamed as she shared about her children’s accomplishments, saying, “Watching my kids start to thrive brings me a lot of joy. My oldest has taken a keen interest in baseball and he’s really excelling.” The joy of motherhood has become a vital aspect of her recovery and everyday happiness.
Fishel’s cancer diagnosis came as a shock during a routine mammogram in July 2024, leading to her eventual diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). In her candid discussion about the experience, she revealed her initial instinct was to keep the diagnosis private. “My first thought was to just get through it quietly,” she recalled, before highlighting the importance of regular health check-ups. “Had it not been for being diligent about my yearly check-up, I might not have discovered the cancer.”
After completing her treatment in January 2025, Fishel made a prominent return to the public eye as a contestant on Season 34 of *Dancing with the Stars*. Despite not clinching the trophy, her time on the dance floor reignited her passion for the art. Partnered with professional dancer Pasha Pashkov, she embraced the experience, stating that her newfound love for dancing was a transformative aspect of her recovery.
Amidst her busy schedule, teaming up with brands now holds special meaning for Fishel. During the *Dancing with the Stars* season, she collaborated with Lysol on their Lavender and Cotton Blossom collection. She emphasised a different view on self-care, explaining, “I want to consider self-care as a necessity rather than an indulgence. It’s essential for me to keep active and engage in the things that truly bring me joy, like dancing.”
