Texas Mom Allegedly Forced Son, 3, in a Wheelchair and Utilized Unnecessary Feeding Tube

A mother from Texas, Kaitlyn Laura, has been charged with serious offences related to the alleged medical abuse of her three-year-old son. The allegations suggest that Laura subjected her child to unnecessary medical interventions, including the improper use of a feeding tube and wheelchair. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Laura has been charged with injury to a child, classified as a first-degree felony under Texas law, alongside an additional charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Laura was taken into custody on March 19 and subsequently booked into the Tarrant County Jail. Following her arrest, she was released on March 29 after posting a bond set at $75,000. Initial investigations uncovered a troubling narrative surrounding her child’s health, particularly claims made by Laura concerning the boy’s purported cerebral palsy diagnosis.

According to reports, Laura asserted that her son was unable to walk and suffered from significant eating difficulties. She frequently returned to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, alleging that her child’s health was deteriorating. However, these claims were contradicted by the boy’s father, who stated the child was eating normally.

Concerns began to mount among medical staff when they observed discrepancies between Laura’s assertions and her son’s behaviour. Although Laura insisted on the necessity of a feeding tube, the child was seen eating regular meals by mouth during hospital visits. Authorities highlighted that he also attempted to stand, despite her insistence that he should be using a wheelchair.

Over the course of the past year, Laura’s son underwent several surgeries and treatments that medical professionals later deemed unnecessary. The alarming situation was first flagged to Child Protection Services (CPS) in June 2025, following medical assessments that indicated the mother’s descriptions of her son’s ailments were false or exaggerated. This led to a referral of the case by the Glen Rose Police Department to the Johnson County District Attorney’s office.

Additionally, further concerns were raised by a teacher at Laura’s son’s school in October 2025, who observed the child safely navigating the school grounds without the assistance of a walking aid. Following these allegations, Laura withdrew her son from the school shortly thereafter.

Subsequent medical procedures also raised eyebrows. In January, the child had an invasive operation to install a new feeding tube, after which Laura requested readmission to the hospital the following month due to alleged complications. At this point, authorities decided to remove the child from his mother’s care and he was placed into foster care on February 14.

Reports indicate that Laura’s accounts regarding her son’s medical history have been inconsistent. For instance, in October 2024, she claimed he had experienced a “traumatic birth,” which she later contradicted by stating he required oxygen at birth. Additionally, Laura reportedly established multiple fundraising campaigns on social media for both her son’s medical expenses and personal needs, raising further scrutiny over her actions.

Sheriff Bill Waybourn from Tarrant County commented on the severity of the situation, characterising Laura’s behaviour as narcissistic and indicative of a desire for sympathy by portraying her child as fragile. He expressed concern over the lasting physical and emotional trauma the child may face as a result of the unnecessary procedures he underwent.

Authorities are exploring additional angles pertaining to potential Medicaid fraud linked to the unwarranted medical treatments. Investigators have uncovered at least three GoFundMe accounts set up by Laura to solicit donations for medical expenses, and they are now appealing to anyone who contributed or communicated with Laura regarding her son’s health to come forward.

As of now, it remains unclear whether Laura has legal representation to address the serious allegations against her. The case has attracted considerable attention, raising critical awareness around the issue of medical child abuse and the responsibilities of caregivers. Further investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to ensuring the well-being of the child at the centre of this distressing situation.
