Elderly Woman Stabbed to Death in ‘Vicious, Unprovoked’ Attack While Walking Dog in ‘Quiet Retirement Community’

A 25-year-old man from Florida, Kersten Francilus, has been charged with first-degree murder following the alleged stabbing of a woman in her mid-70s as she walked her dog in a peaceful neighbourhood. The tragic incident unfolded in Martin County, and authorities say it was an unprovoked attack.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported on the day of the incident, which occurred on April 2, that they had received numerous calls from residents expressing concern about a suspicious individual walking door-to-door in the South Wood Community. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was attacked shortly after these initial reports were made.

Sheriff John Budensiek provided an update during a live-streamed press conference, informing viewers that Francilus was believed to reside in close proximity to the neighbourhood, living with his mother, wife, and young child. According to the Sheriff, Francilus was spotted acting strangely, allegedly knocking on doors and inquiring about the location of a non-existent bank in the area before approaching the victim.

Witnesses described a scene of confusion as they saw Francilus knocking on various doors, displaying unusual behaviour that raised alarm among residents. Just prior to the fatal incident, calls had begun to flood in regarding the suspect, with citizens reporting that he appeared to be going from house to house, creating an unsettling atmosphere in the typically quiet retirement community.

A bystander who witnessed the attack attempted to intervene but was unable to stop the violence. The situation escalated quickly, prompting urgent calls to the authorities.
