Teen Busted After He’s Allegedly Tied to Suitcases Stuffed with Human Remains and Surrounded by Vultures

A 19-year-old man identified as Lucas Sander Jones has been charged with murder following the disturbing discovery of human remains inside a suitcase in Palm Bay, Florida. The investigation began after a call was made to authorities regarding a suitcase swarmed by vultures in a remote area of the city.

On Saturday, 28 March, officers from the Palm Bay Police Department were dispatched to 1574 Bombardier Boulevard, where the suitcase was located amidst tall grass, giving off a foul odour. According to the police statement, investigators found not only the remains of a missing individual but also an Amazon parcel addressed to Jones himself.

The victim, Colie Lee Daniel, a 28-year-old from Indialantic, had been reported missing six days prior, sparking immediate interest in Jones due to the connection between the two men. Following the grisly discovery, further investigation led detectives to a second suitcase in the vicinity, which also contained human remains.

Upon identifying Jones as a suspect, police executed a search warrant at his residence on Watson Drive in Indialantic. Authorities found Jones there with his girlfriend, where he displayed visible signs of recent injuries, including bruises and healing wounds. When questioned, Jones declined to provide a statement to the police.

Jones’ girlfriend provided details suggesting that she had seen Daniel at their home shortly before his disappearance. She recalled observing Daniel lying on Jones’ bed, with Jones appearing to attempt to awaken him. However, when she returned from the bathroom, Daniel was no longer present, and Jones claimed he had left through the back door.

The investigation took a further twist when detectives learned that on 21 March, Jones requested his girlfriend to drive him to the area known locally as the “Compound.” This was where she reportedly witnessed him disposing of two grey totes from her vehicle in separate locations. Though she did not see the suitcases, investigators believe they were also discarded at the same location.

During the search of Jones’ residence, police uncovered blood stains and a knife, which further solidified their suspicions against him. Initially, Jones faced charges related to tampering with evidence and improper disposal of human remains. He was arrested on 28 March and released the following day after posting a $7,500 bond.

As the investigation advanced, additional interviews and examinations of the evidence supported more serious accusations. By 1 April, Jones was taken into custody again, facing a more severe charge of first-degree murder, classified as dangerous and depraved without premeditation. A judge has ordered his remand into state custody, although the exact connection between Jones and Daniel remains unclear.

Currently, Jones has not entered a plea in relation to the charges, and his attorney has yet to comment on the case. His arraignment, originally set for 21 April, has had recent developments that rendered that hearing unnecessary at this time.

The chilling nature of this case, stemming from the macabre sight of vultures hovering over a suitcase, highlights the ongoing issue of violent crime within the region. Authorities are now focused on unravelling the details surrounding the motive and events leading up to Daniel’s death, as the community grapples with this unsettling incident.
