Teddi Mellencamp, known for her role in “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” has provided an optimistic update on her health as she continues her battle with stage 4 cancer. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 44-year-old revealed that despite the daunting diagnosis, she is maintaining a positive outlook and is “actually doing well.”

At the iHeartRadio Music Awards held on 26 March 2026, Mellencamp shared details about her ongoing treatment and how she copes with the mental and emotional challenges associated with her condition. “You know, I kind of ride the wave,” she stated, highlighting her ability to adapt to the ups and downs of her treatment journey.
Mellencamp disclosed that she recently received immunotherapy and has another session scheduled in two weeks. “Things are moving along nicely,” she remarked, showcasing a determined spirit although she is currently in the advanced stages of her illness. She also took the opportunity to present her father, the acclaimed musician John Mellencamp, with the iHeartRadio Music Icon Award, marking a notable family moment amidst her health struggles.
Earlier this month, however, Mellencamp faced a severe setback when a new medication caused her to suffer from Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a rare but serious condition characterised by painful rashes and sores across the body. In a conversation with her friend and co-host Tamra Judge on the podcast “Two T’s in a Pod,” she recounted the distressing experience, stating, “I thought I had the flu. And then I woke up one day and my whole body was just covered in, like, this terrible rash.” After a brief hospitalisation, she was relieved to recover just in time to celebrate her daughter Dove’s sixth birthday, a milestone she sadly missed the previous year due to her cancer treatments.
Mellencamp’s journey with cancer began in 2022 when she was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma, recognised as one of the most lethal forms of skin cancer. Since then, she has undergone an impressive total of 17 surgeries in her bid to combat the invasive disease. In April 2025, she received the distressing news that the melanoma had spread to her brain and lungs, prompting a more aggressive treatment plan.
Despite the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, Mellencamp remains hopeful, stating that doctors have informed her there is currently “no trace of cancer.” Her regimen of immunotherapy continues, and she emphasised her resolve to stay positive and proactive in managing her health.
Mellencamp shares three children with her ex-husband Edwin Arroyave: Slate, 12, Cruz, 11, and Dove, 6. Her battle with cancer has not only been challenging for her but also for her family, and she remains dedicated to being present for her children during these trying times.
In sharing her story, Mellencamp aims to inspire and encourage others who may be facing similar health challenges. She has developed a supportive community through social media, where she updates her followers on her condition while fostering discussions about mental health and resilience in the face of adversity.
As she navigates this difficult path, Mellencamp’s unwavering spirit serves as a beacon of hope. Her approach—both pragmatic and hopeful—reflects an understanding that while the fight against cancer is fraught with challenges, moments of joy and connection with loved ones are equally essential in the healing process.
With each passing day, Mellencamp continues to advocate for awareness around melanoma and its impacts, empowering others through her vulnerability and strength. As she prepares for the next step in her treatment, her journey remains a testament to the power of perseverance, love, and hope in the face of life’s toughest battles.
