Kylie Darling, a 21-year-old social media influencer, has garnered attention for her openness regarding cosmetic surgery, spending approximately £16,000 on various procedures over the past two years. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, she discusses her motivations and the reactions she has faced from followers.

From a young age, Darling had aspirations of enhancing her appearance, influenced by the aesthetics of her mother. Initially believing her breasts would develop naturally, she was surprised to learn that her mother’s were, in fact, implants. This revelation sparked her interest in undergoing similar procedures herself, ultimately leading to her decision to have breast augmentation after reaching the age of 19.
In total, Darling allocated over £14,000 of her savings to the breast augmentation, with an additional £2,000 spent on lip, cheek, and chin fillers, as well as Botox injections. Despite the significant financial investment, Darling is quick to clarify that her choices are not rooted in insecurity.
“I was never insecure about my boobs or my lips or my chin,” she explains. Instead, she views cosmetic enhancements as a means of self-expression and empowerment. “I just think it’s a fun thing, and it’s a thing that’s available,” she adds.
However, Darling does acknowledge the criticism that often accompanies elective surgery. She has faced accusations of being “fake” and has observed a loss of respect from some online users. In response to this negativity, she maintains that many critics may be dealing with their own insecurities or financial limitations.
“I do think a lot of that comes from people that are insecure or that can’t afford it,” she states. Darling emphasizes the importance of consulting with reputable professionals, who can provide guidance on when it’s appropriate to seek enhancements and when it may be best to refrain.
She stresses the significance of maintaining a healthy mindset when pursuing cosmetic changes. According to Darling, seeking surgery to address deeper insecurities is unlikely to provide lasting happiness. “If you’re insecure with something, fixing it probably isn’t going to help what’s within,” she remarks. Instead, she believes in fostering self-confidence before considering surgical options.
In her own experience, Darling is mindful of the limits on future enhancements. Currently, she has no plans to pursue additional procedures, citing advice from her healthcare providers as a key factor. “A good injector will say no to you. A good plastic surgeon will say no to you,” she explains, noting that it is essential to have professionals who can evaluate one’s anatomy and guide patients toward the best choices.
For instance, when Darling sought Botox to reduce her masseter muscle for a slimmer jawline, her injector advised against it. “She’s like, ‘First of all, you’re not a candidate. Second of all, I love your face shape. I don’t want to change that,’” Darling recounts. Following that advice, she recognised the importance of listening to the professionals in the field.
In sharing her experiences, Darling aims to normalise the conversation around cosmetic surgery and promote body positivity. She advocates for individuals to make informed decisions that align with their personal desires rather than succumbing to societal pressures or opinions.
Overall, Kylie Darling’s journey illustrates a growing trend among young influencers who openly discuss their cosmetic procedures. Through her candid reflections, she empowers others to explore their options thoughtfully and promotes a narrative that prioritises confidence over conformity.
