According to the Georgia State Patrol, the series of events began when the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe halted to allow an animal to cross the road. A 2017 Honda Civic stopped behind the Tahoe. However, a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado failed to notice this stop and struck the back of the Civic. This collision caused the Civic to rear-end the Tahoe, while a fourth vehicle, a 2018 Ford Fusion, was hit as it travelled alongside the incident in the right lane.
In the wake of the accident, emergency services transported Stiles to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he could not be saved. The other occupants of the vehicles involved also experienced varying degrees of injuries, with the driver of the Civic reportedly suffering serious injuries, while the drivers of the Tahoe and Silverado sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Ford Fusion emerged unscathed.
