On March 25, First Lady Melania Trump showcased an innovative touch at the White House by walking alongside a humanoid robot during the second day of her global technology summit. This event falls under her initiative, “Fostering the Future Together,” aimed at promoting the use of technology and education for empowering children worldwide.

The robot, developed by the Silicon Valley-based startup Figure AI, introduced itself as “Figure 03, a humanoid built in the United States of America.” The introduction was met with applause from an audience that included first spouses from across the globe and representatives from leading technology firms. Figure 03 not only presented itself but also expressed gratitude for participating in the movement focused on enhancing children’s access to technology. Engaging the audience further, it greeted attendees in eleven different languages, including Slovenian, Melania Trump’s native tongue.

As the First Lady stepped back to allow the robot to lead, the warm reception it received underscored the event’s significance. She remarked, “It’s fair to state, you are my first American-made humanoid guest in the White House,” while also recognising the presence of a diverse group of international leaders participating in the event. A total of 45 representatives from various countries were gathered to discuss the future of technology.
The tech summit brought together leaders from over three dozen nations, alongside 28 prominent technology firms including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, illustrating a concerted effort to explore advancements in technology and its potential applications. The summit reflects Melania Trump’s commitment to foster international cooperation in technological innovation, which she initially announced at the United Nations General Assembly last September.
Although her initial appearance on the summit’s first day was brief, Melania Trump played an active role in the second part of the event. Hosting a roundtable discussion in the East Room of the White House, she encouraged world leaders, including Brigitte Macron of France, to embrace emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). This call for collaboration highlighted the transformative potential of AI in accessing and utilising humanity’s extensive knowledge base.
In her discussions, Melania Trump introduced the conceptual idea of a humanoid educator named “Plato,” which she suggested could provide students with instant access to a wealth of information. “Plato will provide a personalized experience, adaptive to the needs of each student. Plato is always patient, and always available,” she stated, illustrating her vision of how humanoid robots could revolutionise education.
Beyond education, the First Lady also touched upon the economic advantages AI may bring. She stated, “Fostering the Future Together is built on the theory that efficiencies derived from artificial intelligence will improve various parts of society, such as commerce, healthcare, and food security.” This assertion indicates her belief in AI’s capacity to enhance societal well-being and economic stability in the US and beyond.
Melania emphasized the responsibility of the United States in ensuring that future generations become highly educated and technologically adept. She expressed confidence that by investing in technological education, the country could secure its economic superiority in the long term.
Key figures at the summit included the spouses of various international leaders, such as Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Olena Zelenska, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Their presence further underscored the global unity in pursuing technological advancement for the future.
The “Fostering the Future Together” initiative aligns with Melania Trump’s broader “Be Best” campaign, originally launched during Donald Trump’s presidency. As the summit concluded, the focus remained on promoting collaborative, innovative approaches to technology that serve as catalysts for change within society. The humanoid robot featured prominently in this vision, symbolising the intersection of technology and education that the First Lady seeks to advance.
