A man from West Virginia has been charged with malicious assault following a shocking incident in which he allegedly shot his father in the face with a crossbow. The events unfolded on 17 March, and the accused, identified as Chase Fleming, is currently being held on a substantial bond of £250,000.

As per the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the confrontation that led to the violent act arose from a heated argument between Fleming and his father. According to Sheriff Ross Mellinger, a phone conversation had escalated, prompting Fleming to visit his father’s home, where tensions flared further. It is alleged that in the midst of the altercation, Fleming used the crossbow against his father.
The injuries sustained by the victim were severe, with reports indicating that the crossbow bolt struck just beneath the left eye and penetrated through to the back of his head. Remarkably, despite the seriousness of the attack, he survived and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital. Sheriff Mellinger remarked on the extent of the injuries, stating, “How the guy is still alive is beyond me; it’s really remarkable.”
Law enforcement apprehended Fleming after a pursuit that involved him fleeing on foot across two counties. Following his arrest, Fleming was also taken to the hospital for observation before being considered for incarceration.
