Guy Fieri, the renowned host of the popular culinary show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” recently found himself the target of a clever prank involving his signature red Camaro. The incident unfolded when Fieri commissioned his friend, Rory Allen, a skilled car builder at VP SpeedShop, to create a duplicate of his iconic vehicle for a special episode titled “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives: Revved Up,” which aired in 2022.

Fieri had challenged Allen to construct two identical cars that were so alike he wouldn’t be able to distinguish his original from the replica. “I built mirrored cars. They’re identical cars,” Allen explained, revealing the ambitious challenge posed to him by Fieri. Despite the light-hearted nature of the task, a cunning twist was planned.

The celebrity chef believed he had one unique indicator that would help him identify the original Camaro: a minor scratch located on the driver’s side of the windshield. “When you see that scratch, that’s the original car,” he remarked, sharing the detail with his family in confidence.
To determine which car was the original, a group of approximately 150 people were invited to weigh in and cast their votes. The results were predominantly in favour of the first car, with 130 people believing it to be the original, while only 20 cast their votes for the second vehicle. The outcome surprised Fieri and his family, who discovered that the builders had cleverly swapped the identities of the two cars. “Totally duped me on my own show,” he confessed, highlighting the elaborate nature of the prank.
In recounting the history of his beloved Camaro, Fieri shared that he initially drove a 1967 model during the show’s early seasons. However, after transitioning to a new production company, the chef received an upgraded version of his iconic car. Fieri remarked on the challenges faced with the older model, saying, “Believe it or not, there were a few times we broke down at intersections.”
As Fieri continues to make waves in the culinary world, his new show “Flavortown” recently debuted, featuring the striking red Camaro proudly parked in front of a diner setting, along with the newly established Flavortown mayor’s office. Maneet Chauhan, one of the judges on the show, expressed her delight, saying, “All of us, over the years, have had an idea about how the mystical Flavortown would look. This place superseded my expectations.”
Fieri portraied “Flavortown” as a manifestation of his culinary journey, stating that the show would offer viewers a glimpse into this mythical world he has long discussed. “Everybody’s going to get a chance to see this mythical place that I’ve talked about for all these years is really coming to life,” he shared in an interview at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
In addition to his car caper, Fieri has shared anecdotes reflecting on his unique persona when he first joined the Food Network. He recalled arriving at the network with his signature spiky blonde hair, extensive tattoos, and an affinity for bold jewellery, which was unusual for the culinary platform. Bobby Flay, a fellow chef, jestingly questioned Fieri, “So are you a chef or a jeweller?”
Fieri recently capitalised on this moment during an event, playfully flipping the line back to Flay when he spotted him wearing a sizeable gold chain. “I just had to say it,” Fieri remarked. “I said, ‘Bobby, let me just ask a question. So now, are you a chef or a jeweller?’ He goes, ‘All right, I deserve that.’”
This amusing exchange not only highlights Fieri’s quick wit but also showcases the camaraderie among chefs within the culinary world. Both Fieri’s car saga and his humorous anecdotes illustrate his vibrant personality and the joy he brings to the culinary community. As his new adventures continue, fans are excited to see what Fieri will cook up next, both on the road and in the kitchen.
