Television personalities Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos were recently reminded of the special moment when Consuelos proposed to Ripa on April 30, 1996, during an episode of their show, *Live with Kelly and Mark*. The couple revealed their delight over eloping before the rise of social media and shared charming anecdotes about their proposal.

During the broadcast on 20th March, Ripa, 55, expressed her thoughts about modern proposals, noting the tendency for people to seek social media validation. She remarked, “People don’t just propose anymore. They propose for social media,” highlighting the shift in how engagements are sometimes showcased online.
Consuelos, 54, also fondly recounted the details of their unconventional proposal, describing it as slightly more casual than traditional. He said, “I remember our proposal,” to which Ripa playfully replied, “Was it a proposal? It was more of an idea.” She elaborated on the moment, recalling how Consuelos suggested getting married the very next day when they had a day off work.
Their banter continued with Consuelos asserting his seriousness when he told Ripa, “Ask me when you’re serious.” To which he assured her, “I’m dead serious.” This spontaneity laid the groundwork for their swift decision to elope to Las Vegas just a day later.
Consuelos expressed gratitude for their proposal taking place before the age of Instagram and social media hype. He stated, “I’m so glad we didn’t have Instagram and that stuff back then,” sharing his opinion that many social media-driven proposals can often feel tedious.
The couple’s bond blossomed back in 1995 while working on the soap opera *All My Children*, where Ripa played the role of Hayley Vaughan and Consuelos portrayed her love interest. Their chemistry was immediate, quickly transitioning from professional colleagues to romantic partners.
Their impromptu wedding at the Chapel of the Bells in Las Vegas marked the beginning of their family life. Over the years, they welcomed three children: sons Michael, 28, and Joaquin, 23, along with daughter Lola, 24. Ripa once disclosed that their entire wedding cost a mere $179, which included airfare. She added, “If we had to endure a large wedding with planning and seating charts, we would not have made it.”
In February 2024, to commemorate their 28 years of marriage, Ripa and Consuelos returned to Las Vegas to recreate their original wedding at the same chapel. Ripa shared moments from the ceremony on her Instagram, juxtaposing them with nostalgic images from their initial nuptials. In her post, she wrote, “Viva Las Vegas ✨ Then ➡️ Now,” celebrating their enduring love and shared history.
Reflecting on the significance of their original wedding, Ripa noted, “We cherish those memories still to this day. It’s been 28 years, and we still can remember every minute of that wedding. I mean, it was really minutes. It was like two minutes!”
The couple continues to captivate their followers with their love story, demonstrating that sometimes, the most memorable moments come from spontaneous decisions rather than meticulously planned events. Their journey serves as a reminder of the beauty found in simplicity and joy in every fleeting moment.
