Catherine Harding, known by her stage name Cat Cavelli, has recently spoken out regarding an unsettling encounter involving her daughter Ada Law and pop singer Chappell Roan. The incident has sparked considerable controversy, following accusations made by Harding’s husband, professional footballer Jorginho, who claimed that Roan sent a security guard to confront the family.

On March 22, Harding shared her perspective through a video posted on Instagram, elaborating on the events that transpired while the family was having breakfast at a Brazilian hotel in São Paulo. “I didn’t realise it would get this crazy,” said the 34-year-old mother, who also addressed Roan’s denial of the accusations. The situation began when Ada, aged 11, spotted a woman with long curly red hair who resembled Roan and expressed her curiosity about the singer’s identity.
According to Harding, when Ada approached the garden area where Roan was, the young girl did not attempt to take a photo or directly engage with the artist. She later returned to her seat to inform her mother that she was uncertain if the woman she had seen was indeed Roan. Shortly thereafter, a security guard allegedly approached the family with an aggressive tone, reprimanding them for what was perceived as inappropriate behaviour.

Harding claimed, “For me, if she really didn’t send him, the security guard overstepped a boundary,” noting that the individual was quite intimidating. The confrontation took a serious turn when the guard reportedly stated his intention to file a complaint against Ada, accusing her of being “badly educated.” Harding defended her daughter, asserting that they were entitled to move freely as guests at the hotel.

She further revealed that she had planned a special outing for Ada’s birthday, as the young girl had received tickets to Roan’s performance at Lollapalooza Brazil. However, the tension from the incident overshadowed the excitement, leading to the family ultimately deciding not to attend the concert.
In her Instagram video, Harding expressed her hope that Roan would reconsider how those working on her behalf interact with others, especially fans. “I think you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure… that the people who work for you are acting on your behalf,” she stated. This sentiment appears to highlight the broader issue of celebrity interactions with fans and the expectations surrounding those relationships.
Chappell Roan responded to the situation via her own Instagram Stories, insisting that the individual who approached Harding’s family was not her personal security and that she did not instruct anyone to confront them. “I didn’t even see a woman and a child. Like, I did not. No one came up to me, no one bothered me,” she claimed, expressing disbelief over the incident.
Roan also commented on the online reactions to the matter, clarifying her affection for fans and emphasising that she bears no disdain towards admirers of her music. “I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy,” she remarked, attempting to dispel any negative assumptions about her character.
Following the incident, Jorginho took to social media to express the emotional toll it had on their daughter, describing her as “extremely shaken” and distressed following the confrontation. Harding shared her husband’s statements on her Instagram, including a picture of a fan-made sign that Ada had prepared for Roan’s performance.
This episode has resonated with many, given Roan’s history of advocating for boundaries between herself, her fans, and the media. Earlier in the month, she had made headlines for calling out paparazzi who were lingering outside a restaurant where she had been dining, labelling their behaviour as “harassment.”
As discussions surrounding celebrity culture, fan interactions, and personal boundaries continue, this incident serves as a reminder of the complex dynamics at play. Harding’s heartfelt account emphasises the impact such confrontations can have on families and young fans, while Roan’s response seeks to clarify her position and reinforce her commitment to maintaining healthy interactions with those who admire her work.
