Now embarking on his 11th season in the NFL, Jones, aged 32, expressed his enthusiasm for both his new role and his passion for flying. “I found a little passion for aviation a few years back and flew up here today for signing, so it’s a little hobby of mine that I enjoy doing,” he stated, showcasing the blend of professionalism and personal interests that characterises his approach to life.

Jones earned his pilot’s licence in April 2023, a credential he acquired while pursuing his love for flying at Norwood Airport just outside Boston. His commitment to this pursuit came during his stint with the New England Patriots, where he spent a successful nine seasons and celebrated two Super Bowl victories.
His newfound passion for aviation stemmed from a childhood fascination with the outdoors. “I grew up as a country boy,” Jones recalled. “I was always outside on bikes and four-wheelers. Aviation was kind of my niche. I got exposed to general aviation, took a discovery flight, and I fell in love with it.” This lifelong interest has now integrated seamlessly into his professional journey, as he takes to the skies whenever possible.
During his press conference, Jones recounted the exhilarating experience of piloting himself to the site of his contract signing. “So I hopped over from Charlotte today to get over to here. It was a quick flight, but anytime I can fly, I love it. It was kind of nice to have the approach over the Delaware River. It was kind of a nice touch for the morning,” he shared, adding a personal touch to what could otherwise be a routine contract signing.
Having initially signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent from Auburn University in May 2016, Jones quickly made his mark in the NFL, contributing significantly to New England’s defence and special teams. His stellar performance helped secure two Super Bowl titles in 2017 and 2019.
Looking ahead to his time with the Eagles, Jones is excited to bring his experience and skills to Philadelphia. He highlighted his love for the sport and his drive to support his teammates on the field, saying, “I just love aggression. I love to fly around on the field, make plays, support my teammates, and just try to be a cerebral player.”
With his move to the Eagles, Jones is eager to contribute to a team that has shown promise in recent seasons. His commitment to excellence, combined with his unique hobby, positions him as a player to watch in the upcoming NFL season.
As he embarks on this new chapter with the Eagles, Jonathan Jones continues to embody the spirit of both a dedicated athlete and an adventurous individual. His story serves as a reminder of the diverse interests that can coexist within professional sports, reflecting the multifaceted lives of athletes beyond the field.
